Wedding Speech

Hi All,
I am having to give a speech on behalf of my dad at my sisters wedding. I'm not used to speaking and have no idea where to start. Any tips on what to say, I would prefer to keep it short and sweet and maybe throw in a few cricketing phrases as the groom is an avid cricketer. Is there an order to the speech? How do I construct it?
Any ideas/advice eagerly welcome
Shaun

What about getting a best man type of book to give you a few tips maybe.
Make as many notes as you think you'll need, and practice as much as you can if front of the mirror, it'll help if you're nervous.
And you could ask if the speeches could take place BEFORE the meal too, so that you can get it out of the way and relax afterwards, and enjoy the meal itself. Usually they're afterwards, and during a wedding reception if you look to the top table, you can see the poor people making last minute adjustments to their notes!
Best of luck - you'll priobably enjoy it once you're into it!0 -
i absolutely second that, go to the library and hire a book out on wedding speeches rather than buying one and it'll give you some good tips!0

try and start off with a good one liner and they'll be eating out of the palm of your hand ,
i told the guest's at my wedding that for our honeymoon i'd booked in to a 5star hotel .... i asked the manager how i would know if it was 5star ... and he told me that when you look up at night , you can see 4 of them through a hole in the roof0 -
I got some good ideas from this site - I think it costs to gain access to the main site but I can't remember how much - don't think it was very much or I wouldn't have done so!0

Thanks for all the replies, can anyone tell me what format the speech should be in. For example what is the correct order to say things in what do i have to include, who do i thank and when?
Grooms parents? Bridesmaids? Flower girls, guests etc
Thanks

As you're in ther position of the father of the bride, I think the only people you 'officially' toast is the bride and groom. The best masn thanks the bridesmaids I think. There's a load of sites if you google 'father bride speech'. some good tips too.
Enjoy!0
