Do you have a Makro or Costco near you? We do most of our shopping between Tesco and Asda, but for toilet rolls, kitchen rolls, clothes washing liquid and softener I get them from Makro, - bigger packs and often have bogof on the toilet rolls (Andrex and Velvet) and kitchen rolls (Bounty), making them even better value. They often have bogof on Walkers multbag crisps too.
I prefer a butcher for meat, better produce and often as cheap as supermarkets.0 -
Could always try growing your own veg too.0

It's OK saying use different supermarkets for offers but that's only really OK if you are within walking distance. I find people never tend to include the time they have spent doing this but, more importantly, the fuel they have spent doing this. We used to slaves to finding the best deal from 3 separate supermarkets but we found we were spending needless amounts on fuel and silly amounts of our free time.
We now plan to get the vast majority of our shopping from, rather surprisingly for us, Sainsburys online. As we take advantage of their far larger value range (they call it basics) we find we can save approx 25% of our budget by shopping online at Sainsburys. Also orders over £100 delivered on Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays are free (£3.50 if over £40 but under £100).Call me Carmine....

Mine is a 20 minute walk and i can either walk or take the bus. i do not have a car.
We're talking about saving money and at the end of the day its just advice. i actually go to morrisons when i go to the gym and on thursday when i do my main shop i go to asda. There is a sainsburys that is nearer as well as an iceland but i dont go there because it's expensive and there arent so many deals I like. No-one suggested trawling around supermarkets all day for the best deals. Each to their own but maybe shopping online at sainsbury's isnt the right thing for the original poster, as I find them more expensive than Asda.0 -

I wasn't being aggressive in my tone and am quite surprised at the reply's tone but if it came across as aggressive I apologise. Like you said, this is a money saving site and mine was also only money saving advice
Maybe taking the bus (I'm assuming that's not free?) and doing as you do also isn't the right thing for the poster either? I have to say up until a week or so ago we were also of the opinion that Sainsburys was expensive but have found them (via mysupermarket.co.uk) to be approx 25% cheaper than either Tesco or Asda for our shop. And no visits to the shops, either by use of legs, bus or car. This of course entirely depends on the products you buy, of course.
Ps If that is your site in your sig you aren't allowed to advertise on here. Sorry.Call me Carmine....

personally i find it better and cheaper to shop online , and from using sainsburys tesco and asda online i find asda the cheapest.
i get my shopping delivered on a sunday morning and try to get a free delivery voucher code ,i have only had to pay for one delivery since november.
if i work out meals for each night and pack lunches for 3 kids and hubby plus all pet food and cleaning products, i can get my full shopping for the week from £75- £85 .
i tend to buy asda 2 in 1 washing powder and its been on 2 big boxes for £10 and these last me about 2 months so this expense isnt on every week.
buying online help you not to put that item in your trolly whats on offer at the end of the isle what is a bargain but you dont need it, it also helps if you have kids and you have to take them shopping with you because they are not there to say "mam can i have this, and this and this" and so on , or you get to the till and theyve put stuff in any ways.
the only thing to do is give it a try online.
if it was me i wouldnt bulk buy from makro or costco because i have a weekly food budget and i stick to it and i get everything i need.0 -
I would think online better. Only because I used to work part time and seemed to spend all my time off shopping. Its just easier when you work and have a family(esp. young children). I prefer Sainsbury's because my last 2 experiences of home delivery with Asda were shocking and the manager wasn't very helpful either.IMO. Also if I have a good stock in and Ihave to get top up shop Iwill go get what I need and out again,But I know if Iwas to go into a supermarket and do a big shop from scratch I'm more likely to stray and buy stuff I don't usually buy because its on offer. Then again I just hate the whole supermarket experience. So depressing. Why is no-one in a supermarket every very happy
:rotfl: Grocery challenge june £300/ £211-50.

I would definately say shop online and do a menu plan before you do your shopping list i do mine by listing days down one side then breakfast, dinner, tea across the top then you can swap and change as you please as you will have all the ingredients in for the meal just have it on a different day. Try and cater your meals to your babys then your not buying different things. I spend £60 a week max for 2 adults 2 kids includes nappies and wipes probably not as many as you maybe but thats it i have £60 in the budget and thats it.0

Try mysupermarket.com, as the site allows you to do a virtual shop, and costs it for each of the supermarkets who deliver in your area, showing you who's cheapest. And you can still earn Nectar or Tesco points through them.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇
