Natwest/Rbs Loan now with Triton

In 2005 we, the company, had an overdraft with Natwest. In April of that year we went into liquidation. The overdraft at he time of entering into liquidation was £19450.00.
They contacted us and said they would accept £150.00 per month after twelve months this increased to £200.00.
On Saturday we received a letter from Triton (Apparently part of RBS) telling me they would be taking £285.00 per month.
We rang them on Monday AM to see what the balance was and the young man there told us it was £14K. He then said if you can get £7300.00 the debt would be paid off. I said I don't have that sort of money. He then said. I think I can do better than that and put me on hold for four or five mins.
When he came back on he said that if I could get him £5300.00 within two weeks he would wipe the loan off RBS's books.
I can not belive that they would wipe off £8700.00.
Does anyone know if this is just a ploy to get the lump some off me and then come back for more. As usual, if it sounds to good to be true, it usually is.
This is like someone giving me the best part of 9K. By hook or by crook I need to get the 5K.
Many thanks for any help.

Hi
I also have experience with Triton, they will offer you a settlement figure - often much lower than the outstanding debt, however you need to makesure that this is a Full & Final figure, and that they (or anyone else) will not come after you for the remainder, and that the debt will be marked as (Partially) Settled on your credit file.
Oh, and as always GET IT IN WRITING!0 -
Thanks Tmoose.
They have promissed to send us the letter confiming it all, so we'll have to wait and see.0
