Could they possibly widen it out to 0-100% to stand a better chance of being right?

  • I think the most important point is actually in the thread title and that is that the word expert is still being used with regard to predicting property prices when the recent past has proved there is no so such thing. To me the most sensible people would be those who refuse to put percentage figures on rises/falls because at least you know they have some sort of honesty and integrity to admit you just can't tell.

To me it's a similiar job to the weather forecasters on the tv, you give a forecast and if its right then its' hey, I'm a genius' and if it's wrong they just shrug their shoulders and blame a random event. They still get paid regardless!

    What a lovely user name.

I congratulate you on its preciseness, and, at the same time, vagueness.

I don't agree with your points, though. Whilst lots of the 'experts' certainly got it wrong, I don't think that means there's no point in putting a figure on it. Indeed, fopr those trying to decide whether to buy/sell, figures like this can and should play an important part in their decision-making process.

These are the same type of experts who right until the last minute were denying any crash would take place as has been stated by others.
I'm with carolt in that I rather like them trying to put a figure on it but theyre just as likely to be wrong now as they were first time around IMHO.
