Did you know that postage stamp prices go up on April 6th 2009?
First class stamps go up from 36p to 39p
(and Large letters from 52p to 61p)
Second Class stamps go up from 27p to 30p
(and Large letters from 42p to 47p)
Did you also know that you can still buy stamps at the current prices, with just 1st or 2nd on, and use them anytime? and use them to make up to larger amounts too - including for international postage?
Kind regards,
Mike
PS This saves around 10%, I reckon.

Hi there
Don't buy 1st class stamps buy 2nd - that will save you money!
My friends a postmaster and he said that 1st and 2nd class letters are NOT treated any different by the Post Office. They are all lumped together and never segregated!!!!
I spoke to my nice postie and he said the same but that it's unoffical as they are encouraged not to let people know this.
What a con, eh?
Buy second and save money!

I'm interested in your post louise, as I send a great deal of post (both 1st and 2nd) and will send some from work to home to do a test!! I'll let you know how I get on.0

I've always wondered about this - surely in these time and motion, speed speed and more speed times segregating the first and second class post would be very time-consuming and expensive for Royal Mail to do so I can definitely imagine it just isn't done. I always send my letters 2nd class anyway as there really is no such thing as first class post anymore. Gone are the days when you could pick your post from the mat before venturing out to work in the morning...Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
Hmm, it sounds plausible but second class mail always arrives at least 1 day later than first class for me, normally 2 or 3 days later so there must be some differentiation.
The best stamps to buy now are large first class stamps as when the prices go up, you will be saving 14.75% and can be used as part payment for more expensive postage including second class if you so wish. Even if you didn't use them for 3 years it's better buying stamps than putting the money in a savings account at the moment.0 -

2nd class mail isnt segregated as such
its down to the processing where mail centres work through the mail
1st class is given priority in the sorting
if its a quiet day then it all gets sorted
if its busy the 1st class gets priority
once stamped mail gets to a delivery office then there is no differentiation and all is delivered that day0 -

Sorry if I diverted the subject a bit but I just wanted to save you guys money with the advice I'd been given. Good idea to try the stamp test and see if it works though....
