DCA's with my phone number

Hi everyone

I am livid (I seem to be having issues dealing with anger lately at DCAs) - I telephoned Cabbott (however their name is spelt) last week to sort a family member's debt out. Anyway, both accounts were settled. Family member gave my number for them to call to arrange payment.

Payment made and authorisation codes given.

I received a call Saturday from them. Asking me security questions. I didn't answer them and explained the account had been settled. I was assured there would be no further calls.

Another call today - this time whilst I was at work. Not good when my offices are open plan!! I told them to take my number off immediately as I had been assured it would be on Saturday and quoted the authorisation codes to them. They acknowledged the mistake.

If I get another call, what should I do? Can I complain to anyone?

Thanks.

Send them a harrassment letter and complain to TS. Similar thing happened to me and I started their complaints procedures and complained to the world and it worked.

I know what you mean about open plan offices and creditors ringing - however, I work in a call centre (a nice one!) and they had to sit in a queue to speak to me and told the call was recorded (which it was!) so evidence of abusive calls! How thick are they????

There are a lot of different response letters for harassment by telephone floating around. This is just one example, posted by fermi.

You might want to amend to suit your circumstances.

    Dear Sirs,

    Harassment by telephone

    Account Number: XXXXXXX

I am writing in relation to the quantity and frequency of telephone calls that I have received from your company, which I deem to be personally harassing.

I have verbally requested that these stop, but I am still receiving calls. (Delete if necessary)

I now require all further correspondence from your company to be made in writing only.

I am of the view that your continued harassment of me by telephone puts you in breach of Section 40 of the Administration of Justice Act 1970, and the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.

If you continue to harass me by telephone, you will also be in breach of the Communications Act (2003) s.127 and I will report you to OFCOM, Trading Standards and The Office of Fair Trading, meaning that you will be liable to a substantial fine.

Please treat this also as a formal complaint, and send me a copy of your company complaints procedure.

Be advised that any further telephone calls from your company will be recorded. (**Even if you don‘t yet have recording equipment!!**)

    Yours faithfully,

I don't how much it will stick but I would add the following text (typed in red purely for your visibilty) to fermi's letter. It could do with a reference to the relevant legislation (Data Protection Act?)
