CCCS - does it work?

From reading other threads I realise I'm not alone with debt problems. My husband and I have just send our info to the CCCS and are waiting for it to be set up. What worries me most still is the companies not accepting the DMP and insisting on payments. We have no money - we have property abroad that we cannot sell but it is for sale. When/if we sell the property all debts will be cleared. What happens if they demand payment - can they really send in bailiffs and demand goods in lieu of payment? My husband is 71 but still works 40 hours a week as I do and we are doing what we can but just can't keep up even minimum payments. I guess what I'm trying to ask is will a DMP work? Any chance of anyone letting me know how it all works and if we've done the right thing in involving the CCCS - too late now I know but all advice gratefully received!
Many thanks.
Many thanks.

Most creditors are not stupid. If they take you to court in theory they can get a CCJ and then send the baliffs etc etc
Likely they wont do this as getting a CCJ costs more money to them they would rather see if they can get there money through a DMP first. CCCS is a good place for anyone with real money problems. The only thing that concerns me is the guy working 40 hours a week at 71. Fine if its work he enjoys and he has his health but otherwise it's not worth it. CCCS will explain all your options a lot better than i can.
Hold tight it's going to be a bit bumpy but it will be worth it in the long run.

I'm with CCCS and have been for over a year and so far so generally good. My 2 largest creditors recommended I contacted CCCS when I got into difficulty as they said they would accept their proposals - true to their words they did, and 15 months later, interest is still frozen.
Creditors are not obliged to accept the proposals but if you go for a non fee paying company such as CCCS they are more likely to accept - although it does take a few months for creditors to accept and you have to ride the storm for a while. However, my hassle stopped in July last year and since then....silence! No calls, no letters...apart from the odd letter to say they will review my account in a month and then nothing further...
No they can't send in bailiffs unless you have a court order...you also get used to all the hot air that they spout to get you to pay.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

I have been with CCCS since May 08 and they were great. They were recommended by the Halifax but it is with the Halifax that I have had the most problems. They did not accept the CCCS offer even though it was paid regularly to them. They transferred debt to Blair, Oliver & Scott (same people) and they threatened legal action. They have finally accepted the offer but would ring me everyday.0

Do you have a mortgage or own a property with a fair amount of equity in it? If so, the most your creditors can do is issue a charging order, which basically "semi secures" it on your property after a CCJ. They can also go for enforcement of sale, but this is very rare. If you are renting, the worst thing they can really do is a CCJ, whereby you pay what you can afford (which is what you are doing on a DMP).
With regards to bailiffs, they can only come round if you miss pyts on the CCJ, but if you have problems paying this, apply to the court and they will ensure that you pay what you can afford.0
