Tenants barter with their landlords

Tenants negotiate cuts in rent

Tenants across the UK are demanding reductions in their rent because there is an oversupply of rental property. Tenants increased bargaining power has been attributed to the flooding of the rental market as homeowners have sort to rent their properties instead of taking a reduced sale price.
The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) has reported that rent has fallen at the sharpest rate since 1998 over the past year. Rent in London since March 2008 has fallen by 6.9% according to Findaproperty.com. Rental prices have fallen by 13.5% in the north of England over the past year. This is welcome news for individuals looking to rent, but will put more pressure on landlords who are struggling to meet their mortgage repayments.

It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

Lots of houses and flats up for rent near us, many of them still empty after several months. I would say the average cost to rent a semi has gone down from £750 to £650/675 a month.

Yeah i've seen this on rightmove, the house i rented last year for £595 is now still on the market after 12 months and is up for £515. If i still rented I would be negotiating or at the very least refusing to pay countrywide lettings £20 a year rental increase!

I still can't find something cheaper than I am already in, or the same price, that has the two extras I am looking for: a bath, a freezer.

If I can find something that has a bath, a freezer and off road parking in an area that's as good/better than this, I'll move. I keep looking.

Not overly bothered about having a bedroom though, but it'd be nice - and a bed!

For £650 I would be disappointed with just a semi.

For me, it's the "etc" at the end of this sentence that really makes me laugh.

Like there are just loads of similar barter situations. Maybe quarter of a badger for cunnilingous, or 68% of a ferrett for a hand job.
