Very proud of my no spend month!!

As a desperate way to stop spending money, I joined the no spend day thread and so far am on 9 days in March - that's four more than I thought I'd manage!!

Really quite proud of myself and thought I would share the things that have helped me achieve my goal:

1. Bring teabags and sugar into work and make own tea instead of having it out of the machine at 70p a cup
2. Library books borrowed instead of buying them AND returned on time instead of racking up a fine (my usual habit)
3. Bought a season ticket on my oyster rather than pay as you go, saved shedloads doing that!!
4. Stopped buying weekly magazine as a) it costs a lot and b) it makes me want to go out shopping when I look at the fashion pages.
5. All through march have been making lunch and bringing it to work instead of the odd day "forgetting (translation couldn't be bothered)" and buying it from the fairly expensive cafe round the corner from my office
6. Not made anywhere near as many phone calls on my mobile, instead favouring the work phone that is not regulated
7. Gave up BUYING chocolate for lent - i can still eat it, i just can't buy it! (and by the way I'm not religious but it seemed like a good time to jump on a bandwagon)
8. Not drinking in the evenings - still meeting up with friends but having soda and lime (20p a go!)
9. Worked extra shifts at the pub to stop me going out
10. made a mothers day card :rotfl:
End of 2010 I was £8,007.66 in debt :(
Today's total: £7,297.06 :o

Hey cheers for the encouragement people!! Very nice of you! Hopefully I've inspired others - anyone that read my recent "confession" thread will know I'm not exactly the "save now spend later" type.... :p

This is great, well done you!! :T

Some top tips there as well. I thought my PAYG Oyster set up was the most cost-effective thing to do (£80 a month) although you've made me see this might be rubbish! Am off to the TFL website to investigate! Thanks!

Hey like I said if I can help others it's always good! :) Which zone are you in though because I think it only really starts saving you money if you're in zone 3 or futher - and use buses a lot - they are quite expensive without a season ticket!

Yep - you're right! I just checked and I'm in zone 2 travelling to zone 1 every day so a travelcard would be £99. Turns out I'm already doing the most cost-effective thing (that is VERY unlike me!). :o I use buses loads and don't often go into zone 1 at weekends so I think I'm def using the best option.

Anyway, well done again on all your efforts! :T
