Waste Carriers Licence

Hi I was just wondering what people think of the Waste carriers licence. My oh is s.employed and removes whatever debris there is left over from the job and takes it to the local tip. We only found out about the WCL through an advert on the local radio station, although it seems to have been in place for a good few years. Do all you people in the same situation have a licence? Are you going to apply for one? It is £149 for three years and then £102 after that. Is this a rip off? Views please.

He is lucky he has not had a massive fine.It is treated as commercial or trade waste so he must have a licence. The local tips supposed to be for household waste only.

His waste is classed as commercial waste. He is lucky to have not been caught and fined- in my area they have been doing spot checks

Is it not better to pay £149 than £10,000 ?

He has applied for one, and doesn't have a problem in doing so, the point is how many people who should have one like my oh, just didn't know about it. He has been SE for over 3years now and has had booklets from Inland revenue about tax and book etc and had been on a new business course run by the business start up people, but it was never mentioned. It just seemed to be something else that was 'being clamped down on' to raise more money for the government! and lots of people most likely don't know about its existence, did you?

It must not be well publicised in your area but certain councils are constantly telling people. It is not a rip-off but of trying control all the trade waste that gets dumped.
