Hello There

I am posting on behalf of a friend who has got themselves into a bit of a mess with his gas payments. He hada bill of just over £1400 before christmas and made a number of payments totalling £300 then had a number of set backs and couldn't afford to make the £150 monthly payments requested by Scottish Power. They have now gone to court and got summons.

Having been in a similar situation myself (quite a lot of debt which i am paying off) I offered to help. We have worked out his monthly outcomings and incomings and there is a £100 a month available to pay to Scottish Power. We have filled out the forms from the court and given an expenditure statement and offered to pay £100 a month.
The reason why i am posting here is because he is worried that they will not accept this payment and demand the money in full which he cannot afford, He is going to also offer to pay by standing order / d.d to ensure that the money comes out every month. He is currently in the process of moving out and moving in with a family member so he can finally pay off his debts and get back on his feet.

Can anyone offer any advice? Thanks in advance.

  • Is the bill correct as it seems very high?

( by the way i loved button moon as a child!!)
  • Hi there,

Yes the bill is correct, the bulk of charges is made up of visits etc Scottish Power have made, (Scottish Power said this to him before christmas).

He knows he should have dealt with this a long time ago however he said he put his head in the sand and hoped it would all go away. He is finally trying to get is life on track and face upto his responsibilties and as I said previously I have been in a similar position so know what its like and want to help him in any where i can.

If his figures add up on the court form and justify the proposed instalments of £100 per month, then I would expect it to be accepted.

    What's left to pay? £1100?

Then it clears the debt in 11 months, which is more than reasonable.

If you don't get what you want, then respond within 14 days of the judgement and ask for a redetermination at a local court

Yes there is just over £1100 to pay, He is offering £100 a month to start off with, once he has sorted a few debts (small amounts) he will have bit more money to play with and would be looking to increase his payment to SP to get it paid.

Thanks very much for your information,
