Companies that hire a sleeping bag???

Son is going on an overland tour which will include Nimibia, which is very cold at night and first thing in the morning. To buy a 3-4 season sleeping bag is around £80/£100. Does anyone know of any companies that hire them please? I was recommended to trekmate.co.k but they don't appear to do that anymore, or at least it isn't in the website. Thanks.

Why not try an army surplus shop who may have some good sleeping bags but not sure if they will be what you are after0

I fully recommend the Army 58 pattern sleeping bag try here:-

I have used this bag in Madagascar, Namibia, Alaska and many other places. It is downfilled and has a waterproof base and a full length zip so if y ou get too hot its easier to get comfortable. In Alaska I was in my jocks whilst all the others were fully clothed!!
The only drawback is it is not a light or as small as the man made fibre ones but still fitted in the base of my rucksack.
If your boy is 6 foot or over get the extra long one (if in doubt get the long one).
This is truly a superb bit of kit for around £30 (inc P+P) and will last years. You can also get liners if required.0 -
Not sure if I would want to sleep in a 'hired' sleeping bag............ I am sure that there are many around that would do the job for not much more than a hire fee..................#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

I have just done a search and the Coleman Poplar Amazon sleeping bag seems to be the cheapest 4/5 season sleeping bag. OutdoorMegastore had them listed for under £30 but it is out of stock for the season. Have seen them on other websites for between £30 and £38. I know nothing about sleeping bags - perhaps someone else could advise if it would be suitable for your sons needs?0

 That was my first thought I have to admit. The son of friend is a tour guide in SA and he said that is what they advise all their clients to do if they are not going to use it again. Not sure if he will but after a gap year he certainly has the travel bug!
Thanks to everyone for their help. I've just looked on ebay and there are a few on there & the one from something Trek Field looks very good with prices not too bad either. I think I'll give them a call:).0 -
Are you sure the place is that cold ? Nimibia/Namibia in Africa ?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?world=1600 << 5 day forecast nothing below 11 C..
And this site says nothing below 8 C all year - which is cold to an Austrailian !! I have been caught out myself by guides/reports written by our warmer climate cousins and anything below 20 C is cold :rotfl: - in single figures they refer to it as freezing.
Unless your son is going climbing - he will probably spend most of his time sleeping in the cotton liner to his 3/4 season sleeping bag.
Save the money, wt and bulk and buy a mozzy net and some light wt ski thermals, which he can sleep-in and even walk around in.Rich people save then spend.
Poor people spend then save what's left.0 -

The Green Slug as there are affectionally known.
My son is in the CCF and they are issued with these when they are away camping and he has never complained about being cold. Uncomfortable from sleeping on the ground maybe.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4 .............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

Yes he is going trekking and it will get quite cold and they have been recommended to get three season sleeping bags plus silk liner. It's an Overland Tour so some of the time it'll be freezing and others lovely and warm/hot.
I haven't had time to look at that link but shall do it now................! Thanks very much.
Edited:
It looks pretty big folded down and he needs a compact one to go in his rucksack.........................mmmmm...........shall email him and get him to have a look. Thanks.0 -

I have been camping in Namibia and it was absolutely bloody freezing!!! It can easily go down below 0 deg C in the desert at night (which is where I assume he'll be staying for part of the time).
I bought a lovely sleeping bag by searching around the net - think I spend about £50 in the end. What really made a big difference in the cold was having a good hood on the bag. NOT a feature I thought I would ever be using, but I was toasty, and others froze!Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0
