repairing my Credit File...

Bit of a long post here so be warned! Hope someone can help though.
Just checked my Credit Report on Equifax and it has returned with 13 credit accounts under my name. Sounds about right. I was a bit nieve and irresponsible with my credit a few years ago but now that I have matured and have had full time employment, i have managed to steer clear of debt and only spending what i own, or what i know that I can pay back 100%.
First thing is o2. I contacted them about this matter about a year ago but never chased it up. I took out a contract with them, and failed to pay some bills. I got a few outstanding bills from o2 but that's it. To be honest, I totally forgot about this as I never ever received any letter from any debt collexn agency or anything claiming that I owe them £240. The £240 is still unsettled however no contact from anyone chasing it up. I spoke to an o2 adviser and he said that this has happened a few times before as they were having problems with the credit agency they were working with. He then went onto say that I can pay them however they wont remove the name from the cred file! I never chased that up. Surely I can write to them and say that if i pay the £240, then o2 can be totally removed from my credit file ?The account shows as defaulted in july 2005.
Next up is Orange. I currently have a contract with orange, however I had 2 in the past also which is showing up on the report. Status, settled April 2005. Maybe they shall be able to remove that as I am paying my bills on time, and have been for hte past couple of years wit them?
3g hutchison phone company shows settled in March 2004. Only a couple months late with payments on that one.
Style Financial Services, never missed a payment and was settled in 2007.
Are any of these worth writing to, to request removal from my credit score?
Also, how the heck do i cancel my Equifax account!

settled accounts will stay on your file for 6 years after them being settled so unless they were settled before 22/3/03 then they wont be removed, however once the 6 years have past they should automatically drop off
its similar for defaults, its unlikely once yoy have paid up it will be removed
call equifax up to cancel the number should be on the contact us page on the website0 -
As Poppy said, you won't get them removed from your file; instead it will show as settled.
Does anyone know if that restarts the 6 years, or if it shows as settled but will still be deleted 6 years after the original default?0
