present ideas for new big sister

Does anyone have any ideas on what I can get for a 9 year-old who is now a half-sister to a new baby girl? I've been putting together gifts for mum (who is my husband's brother's partner) and bubs and thought it might be a nice idea to get her something as well so she doesn't feel left out.

Jewellery is probably out of the question as her mother is quite particular about it and clothes are out because the little girl is very fussy about what she wears!

I was thinking about a book that involves siblings like 'Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing' but other than that I don't have a clue. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :o

Hi cymrugirl, Why don't you make up a gift hamper in a box. There are loads of ideas on here in the "hamper " thread etc. Fill it with Hair bits & pieces and smellies for her age group.

When people are "quite particular" about what a 9 year old wears etc, I tend to be very awkward and think "for goodness sake let the kid have some fun" and would fill it with really interesting, fun "trash" that all kids like!
Sorry! but kids are already old before their time

How about a 'big sister' teashirt or photo frame?

When I was younger (and I still do now!) I loved stationery, espcially pink sparkley pens, pencils, rubbers and notebooks.

Places like Poundland do great scrapbooking things that would be suitable.

How about a camera? You could pick up a couple of disposables or maybe a cheap 35mm from ebay and include film. Then the big sister could act as the photographer if there are groups of people coming to visit the baby which would include her in the event. Or it could become a photo diary of her first year as a big sister in a scrapbook.

As scrivette suggested stationery is always good as well! I loved doodling and writing everything down when I was that age!

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I ended up buying scrapbooking materials (album, cardstock, paper, glitter pens, gel pens, embellishments etc), and as she already has a digital camera, here's hoping it will be fun and useful for her.
    Thanks a bunch. :j
