Hsbc Rights Issue

I have received my rights for HSBC. As a rule I would have ignored anything to do with shares but with it being HSBC I am seriously considering taking up the rights and buying them. Any thoughts on the matter?

I've been searching for an answer on the internet, but can't find too much info.
If you want them for the dividend - then maybe they are not such a good buy as the bank will tighten it's belt and profits are unlikely to rise to the exhorbitant levels of old.
That said, I've never known the share price be this low, and expect them to rise steadily, so perhaps in a year or two they will be worth a lot more and can be sold at a tidy profit.
ARGH - dont know what to do!!
