Hi,

Just wanted to give encouragement to those still swithering/dragging their heels about switching gas & electric. Since 10th March we have reduced our monthly DD from £145 (combined) to £88!!! :j A massive £57 a month saving! :j

What did we do? Well, we gave them accurate readings and shocked ourselves with how much we use! Then we did the comparisons etc and managed to save £165 over a year by switching to a better tarrif with the same company. Next...I took a leaf out of my mums book and switched off at the mains every single appliance the household wasn't using, turned the heating off (don't need it now as the weather is warmer) and we only put our water heater on for 20 mins in the morning and 20 mins in the evening to heat the water for dishes. We also turn this computer off when we aren't using it!!

For the last 2 weeks we have taken daily readings and we are now currently using 1 unit of gas a day and approx 11 units of electric. :T

To put this in perspective further.....we have a 15 year old heating & water system (very inefficient) and there are 6 of us in a 2 bed flat!

So for us...we have a spare £57 extra a month, not to mention reducing our carbon footprint

SO.....go on, bite the bullet and look at switching and also reducing your consumption....it can save you a fortune!

Thanks for that Kittie, I wasn't aware of that site!

My electric bill went from being £146 debit to £5 in credit!! Just shows you what you can do...good incentive eh.

    Cheers.

re imeasure they do not give cost ie weekly and however many weeks you have been using. This was why I now switched to smartmeter you get to pick your user and tariff and seems to be more up to date.

Sorry don't know how to do links but you put in smartmeter.co.uk (I think) and they seem very efficient and are going to introduce a tracker but don't know when. Am newbie to computer so hope this helps.

Boiling a kettle for dishes would be cheaper than switching on the immersion heater.

imeasure are going to let you enter tariff, and calculate costs soon, I believe. Meanwhile, smartmeter is here:
