Discovery Mexican Fajita Dinner Kit 470g - £1.30 @ Tesco

Not an amazing deal on a TV or an iPod but if you are a fan of Fajitas, this will be of great interest you.

Fajita Kits usually set you back about £2.50 - £3.00.

This offer from Tesco has them at a mere £1.30 and there is enough there for a small family. I made sure I stocked up, as they have a very long best before date.

Each serving (1/8th of pack) contains Calories 136 7%, Sugar 3.1g 3%, Fat 3.2g 5%, Saturates 1.3g 6%, Salt 2.2g 37% of your guideline daily amount.
Suitable for Vegetarians.
There's a real art to making authentic-tasting fajitas. Fortunately we've done the hard part for you. Our Fajita Spice Mix, with its unique blend of herbs and spices, infuses real flavour into the meat. And our soft flour tortillas are made from our own Discovery flour to ensure that they stay soft, delicious and very 'rollable'.
All you have to do is sprinkle the spice mix over the meat and vegetables (we're very generous with our spices so go easy if you don't like it too hot). Heat the pan until very hot, stir-fry the vegetables and then the meat until cooked. Don't worry if your onions and peppers brown at the edges the sweetness this releases will add more flavour. Then warm the tortillas, fill, roll and tuck-in quickly.
There's also an art to eating fajitas, but it usually involves lots of fingers and self-expression so we'll leave that part up to you.

Classic Fajitas - 4 Portions.
Ready in 20 mins.
450g boneless chicken, cut into thin strips.
1 Discovery Fajita Kit.
2 tbsp oil.
1 medium onion, sliced.
1 green and 1 red or yellow pepper, sliced.
Coat onion and peppers in 1 tbsp oil. Heat a heavy based frying pan until very hot* and fry onion and peppers for approximately 5 minutes until starting to brown. Remove from the pan and reserve. Coat chicken in remaining oil and fajita spice mix (Tip: use less spice mix for a milder flavour). Reheat the pan until very hot and add chicken. Fry for about 5 minutes until well browned and the meat is cooked. Add onion and peppers and quickly fry until heated through. Serve the sizzling pan at the table with warmed tortillas and let everyone fill their own tortilla - add the salsa, roll up and enjoy!
Tortilla warming instructions.
FRY. MICROWAVE. OVEN.
Remove from the bag and either:
1. Place on a hot, dry frying pan or under the grill for 6 seconds each side.
Or.
2. Microwave at full power (65w) each tortilla for 8 seconds or all together for 45 seconds.
Or.
3. Wrap the tortillas in foil and place in a preheated oven at 180°C/350°F/Gas Mark 4 for 10 minutes.
Top Tips - Discovery know-how.
When cooking fajitas be brave and use more heat than you might be accustomed to.
The pan should be really hot when you add the vegetables and meat so that they sizzle on contact.
Don't worry if some of the onions and peppers go brown at the edges. The sweetness this releases gives greater depth of flavour.

  • The one I got also had a voucher for lovefilm, including £5 off wine and £5 off discovery once you start getting dvds, although I've not looked at it too much to see what it entails
  • Well i just joined lovefilm though PaysYou.co.uk for the cashback. Can that voucher be used for additional free movies?

Also where (area) did you get yours from as mine didnt have vouchers....

At £1.30 a pack, I dont mind stocking up some more!
  • I wonder if they sold out of the original stock and have put new stock with vouchers on the shelves?

Was it definately fajitas or the enchiladas that are on offer?

Both were on offer in my Tesco yesterday, also the wraps were half price at 60-75p depending on flavour.
  • Thats a good price for the wraps, probably deserve a thread of their own.
