So I'm at work today and get caught using my mobile phone and have had it took off me. I know I've been warned before about checking it but they never said just put it away or anything like that!

Can they actually do this?!

and are you at work now using the internet for personal reasons?

What is your company's written policy re mobiles etc?

I'm allowed to use MSN, web texting whatever I want when at work...just not check my texts or anything. Although we are allowed them on silent. I don't know what the company policy is on mobile phones...maybe I should go and ask

    I would ask.

I would also make sure you get it back at the end of your shift.

And while you are asking, check again where it is written about your companies mobile phone procedure is, / and or get a copy of it.

And if they HAVEN'T got a policy ask 'em why not.
Mind you I would have given them the phone - without the battery/sim on the understanding I would be given it back at the end of the shift.
I am expected to have MY mobile available for emergency work use - not overly happy about that.

I went over to my manager who had my phone. Said I wasn't being funny but whats the policy on taking mobiles off people, he said he didn't know what it was and didn't understand why someone would take it from me and gave it back. I apologised for using my phone and thats the end of it. Unhappy about the attitude of the guy who took it off me in the first place though!

I work for Apple in their tech support centre. The thing that gets me is that we can use internet for any purpose but we can't read a text message!

He's basically a coach, and the manager is a team leader. He said he didn't want my phone so gave it straight back...I even said I didn't mind them keeping it because I know I'd done wrong, just a bit more polite would have been better
