    Negative equity is easily dismissed by the argument that if you don't need to move there is no problem. However, if times get tough it is nice to think that you could release some equity, or sell up and down size. Yes, a house is a home not a cashpoint, but it is for most people the single biggest purchase / investment in their futures they will make.

    I agree. Just like to add that it can also impact remortgaging.
