Can anyone advise me what now Littlewoods have said tough? Surely if thats the case (i.e it's been too long) they can't do anything?

Isn't the onus on them to prove I received the goods?

    What do I do now?

I forgot all about it to be honest until about 4 months later, I recieved a bill from them demanding payment. I had never received the item.

    Hi SK,

I'm a little bit  as to how you could forget about it for 4 months, if you recieved statements from Littlewoods every month?

I did call them several times when I got the statements to tell them I hadn't received the items and they said they couldn't tell me where they were left. What was I supposed to do, pay for items I hadn't received? They stopped sending statements and I got on with my life. I hadn't heard a thing till a few weeks ago which is nearly 5 years on.

So what do I do now?

Ok. I'm a terrible person. It was 5 years ago, I didn't do anything about it then and I probably should have. But I didn't. The simple fact is, the mistake was their end with
    a) the driver not knocking at my door to deliver when I was in all day
    b) leaving a parcel with a neighbour and not leaving me a card
    c) not making a record of who they'd left it with and not being able to tell me.

Can anyone advise me how I deal with this now (not harp on about what I should have done then)or am I just going to have to leave it again because I don't know what else to do (like back then) and get a black mark on my credit rating as I will NOT pay for something I never received???

is there still time for me too contact littlewoods and make a paying back agreement with them?

You should start a new post as your is a different issue,

Well there scare tactic worked on you didn't it. Unless they have already been to the courts and obtained a CCJ against you they cannot use bailiffs.

The best way to avoid debt collectors and bailiffs is to pay your debt. How big is the debt, how much can you afford? Have you had a court summons already?
