Inward processing relief / IPR

Just a stab in the dark, to see if anyone knows anything about this?

I work for a small company who intends to import some goods from the USA and re-export them after some re-packaging.

I understand that I need to use "temporary suspended inward processing relief" to stop us being charged duty but am getting totally bamboozled by all the information and the customs helpline just keep referring me to the paperwork.

We want to import the goods via Fed-Ex and I want to know if it really is as simple as just telling Fed-Ex we want to import the goods under a certain code when I phone up and book the shipment?

Does anyone know anything about this and could give me some help? I would be most grateful.

Getting Fed-ex to do the entry might be challenging to say the least. Also for the re-export you will need to ensure the NES export entry is done correctly i.e not just a standard entry but allowing for the IPR. It is important to use the correct CPC procedure code on the C88 customs entry. HTH

I called my local customs office - begged for assistance. Now I have a person to refer to all the time with all my questions (however "simple" they are). I printed out the Notice 221 to help me complete the form. 400+ pages. OMG. Call someone. He walked me through it - super helpful.

I have no idea how english-is-second-language people do this.

How I understand it, it is the export that is the critical bit. I have been told that I need to ensure the correct cpc code is on the "paperwork" incoming from the USA for the import and that I mention IPR. Then ensure I quote the correct CPC code on export and fill out a form (sorry, can't remember number) within so many days of export.

I'm still not convinced it can be this simple, but this is what I have been told by customs. Fed-Ex don't seem to know what I'm talking about but keep telling me it will be OK.
