Icing bag that won't split please!

Usually a just dollop icing on with a spoon, but wanting to be neater last night I got a £1.99 icing set from Morrisons.

Big mistake - the nozzle is fine but the bag split on my first cupcake! I use quite thick buttercream icing and the bag split down near the nozzle.

Any recommendations for a good quality icing bag? Any good brands or other tips?

If I can't use my icing tube (stainless steel set I got cheap somewhere!) I just use an ordinary plastic bag and cut the corner off! I have not had one burst on my yet but normally use them for whipped cream.

For thick buttercream it might be an idea to make a bag out of greaseproof paper, stick it together with a bit of tape and hey presto! (No good with baking paper - it doesn't stick!)

Lakeland do excellent disposable ones which are great if you can't be bothered washing them

It's worth investing in a good piping bag as it will last you for years. I like to use heavy duty ones so the heat from your hands doesn't affect the contents as quickly and they are good for icing, meringue and potato.
