Are you dieting for your big day?

Trying on too many different styles will leave you reeling, I guarantee that. The amount of brides who came into Pronuptia when I worked there and left after trying on six or seven styles, had less of an idea when they left to when they came in. Disappointment was immediate and it shouldn’t have been.
Just one small (well major thing actually) to consider is this. Are you planning on losing weight and changing your body shape before your big day? This is extremely important when choosing your dress, as a style that suits your shape now may not be right on your slimmer frame.

I am but nothing major. Just want to lose approx half a stone so that I feel my best.
I have ordered my dress and I was a size 12 which is my normal size (albeit a big 12). Even when I get down to my ideal weight I will still be a size 12 due to my frame but will just feel better about myself such as my arms being on display. If anything it will only need a slight adjustment on the bust but nothing major.
I think you have to have realistic expectations on what you can acheive with weight loss, and certain styles of wedding dress can hide a multitude of sins!
The lady in the shop i got my dress from was adamant that you should order the dress for the size you are now as she had lost count of the number of times she had been made to order dresses in 2 sizes smaller than the bride who was adamant she was going to slim into it, only to be very disappointed when she found she had not.
My dress makes me look like I have the most amazing figure (I really don't) as it is so flattering, however dresses which I thought would have been flattering did exactly the opposite so it is important to try on dresses which you may not have thought were 'your' style.
I went with that attitude and the first dress I picked out was one which I did not think would be 'me' - was sooooo THE ONE! I still tried on about 10 others to be sure but they did not come close.
Finally decided to start growing up when it comes to money!:j

Exactly!!!
I wonder how many ladies are so excited (because why the hell not) they want to immediately go out and buy their dress. 6/8 months later, after they've been to weight watchers or slimming world, they've lost a considerable amount of weight to discover the "fishtail" they dreamed over, actually looks really nice on now! Sadly, they've commited to another dress and alterations are under way.
You sound so excited about your frock Neeny. I know you read articles about buying a dress to suit your body shape, but wedding gowns are a bit different to the summer "shift" you have hanging in the wardrobe. You have to try on a few styles to get the feel of what suits you best. Glad you are happy with something you didn't think would suit. Sometimes, it's always the way isn't it? x0 -

Snap lol, although I've already lost just under a stone and would like to lose maybe another half after that. Fortunately my dress is a lace up back and it was done up quite loosely before. I have it at home so I can keep trying it on so that I don't lose too much and end up having the dress hanging off...however, I want to lose enough to make sure that I don't ruin the honeymoon pics with a wobbly belly :rotfl:0 -
That's fantastic blonde36er!!! Well done you.0

I totally agree about not gong in with preconceived ideas about a dress. I thought that a big pouffy skirt would be my ideal dress and I tried some lovely ones on. But the best one for me was infact a fishtail style dress which I was really shocked about as I thought you would need to be really skinny to carry one off (I am an average size 12). I want to loose about half a stone before my wedding but I will still be the same dress size. Just my arms I want to slim and tone really. You have to be realistic!Total for 2009: L'Oreal Lip Duo, Diary, Motability Guide

I'm not dieting
I was curvy when he proposed, I have been curvy whilst having his 3 children, dammit he will just have to have me curvy on my big day as well - it's not going to come as a shock to him.:rotfl:
He loves me the way I am, curves and all

I am dieting - but not really for my big day. I work for HBOS and I went on hols in October and ever since work has had my life turned upside down. As a result i never came off holiday eating and have put on a stone and a half.
I am back to healthy eating (with influence from my ww days) and exercise- the wedding has focused my mind a littl to get back to my normal weight - which is still overweight but where i am happiest. I hate the way I feel right now and won't feel happy buying a dress for my weight now.
That said, I have lots of time and will look to order my dress for the size I am at in December.Had a thrifty wedding 17-06-10

I am dieting, but not really for the wedding, I don't feel the pressure to be slimmer for the big day, I am just doing it for my general health and that happens to co-incide with the wedding...
My dress is already too big for me, and with 15 weeks to go, I could have lost another 2 stone by the time it comes round, I just hope that the design looks just as nice when its taken in. The dress will suit me regardless, infact it looks absolutely stunning which half makes me not want to lose weight!
I agree about not having pre conceived ideas when trying them on, I went with an open mind, had no idea about what I wanted or what would suit and tried on most dresses in the shop without thinking 'oh that may not suit' and had the most marvelous time0
