Experian - Default notice - Argh!!!

Hi Guys,

Has anyone had any problems with experian keeping inaccurate details?

I defaulted on a loan 4 years ago, I was ill and couldn't work and missed a few payments......anyway!

The loan was with egg and my dad helped me pay it off after it defaulted, the debt was sold to a company who hounded me to pay it off immediately - they offered me a deal where I could save money if I paid it off early, so I did.

Anyway to the present!

The default keeps on showing in experian that I owe an outstanding balance of £872. I've e-mailed experian twice already and each time they say they've got to check with Egg, and two weeks later it gets updated to "satisfied" - but it then reverts back to being an outstanding balance the next time they do an update.

Ideally I want the entry completely removed but I'm happy as long as it doesn't show I owe any money.

Has anyone had a similar problem and if so did they get it resolved? If so how? I've started threatening them with data protection act compliance etc but I hate referring to legal stuff when im not a lawyer!

Any help advice would be much obliged???

  • Hi there!

i am being offered a deal by a debt collection company called AIC which is asking me to pay a lower amount to settle a defaulted credit card
i'm not sure wether this is good or not!
will a default still show up on my profile?

    Somebody advise me please!!

It sounds to me like experian manually fixed the data their end once, but egg are continually sending incorrect data to them so it just gets overwritten

I would complain to Egg, and get them to update the records they send to experian

If they - Egg - don't resolve the issue, then complain to the financial services ombudsman.
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)
  • Sometimes companies will remove the default from your credit report once the debt is settled, but it depends on the company. It''s probably unlikely that AIC will remove the default but you could always ask!
