Library debt - fines/books/fees etc And my BR

I went to go back to the library, where they duly reminded me that I owed them books
from 2006 that I had forgotten about. And a DVD. And some fines.
So, I emailed them asking what I owed as I wanted to re-join and they emailed back that I can either pay or replace the books (but not a rental DVD).
As the debt was 2006, do you think I could be cheeky and tell them I was BR last year...
:o How could I word it? Especially after asking them how I can re-join after what I owe? Dear Sirs, I made a mistake and I don't have to pay because....????

I know what you mean Lensman but 2006 to now could be a fair sum !
Having said that it brings up just how far BR effects different areas of everyday life!! I have an issue with a previous gym membership (c £109 !!) that they say I owe them for 2 months (not paying as I don`t agree) I think its been written off by now but you never know!!!
....not that I would claim my milk & paper bill you understand!!:D0 -
Well, its £13 for fines, £20 for a new rental DVD to replace the lost one, and almost £50 in RRP for lost books (and I have to pay RRP and not Amazon prices!)
I have been told that I would have the fines waived if I replaced the books - so at Amazon prices its about £30, plus £20 for the DVD though.
I am due about £110 from Quidco (I ordered on my Mums behalf her Sky+HD a few months ago via my quidco.....) so I think I may just pay up the debt on that.
All that said, I have ordered on finance, a Saxaphone. Their insurers wobbled a bit at my credit check, but they have allowed it through - so come Monday I will be the proud owner of a new Sax that I cannot play... So its not all bad!
I think I feel a bit bad though about not replacing the books from the Library rather than owing Barclaycard. It just feels a bit more personal.0 -
I take your point SSA. Skylight - I hope you read my post in the same lighthearted and shallow way that I meant when I posted it. Apologies if not.

What are the missing books and dvd? If you tell me what it is I might have it.
If not then in your case I'd scour cashconverters for the dvd, as for the book have a look on ebay as well.0 -
Please tell me these were the books borrowed :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter0
