Oh my goodness!!!! It's all a big mess
:o:o Please help fellow OSers and save my DD's birthday cake!!!
I was trying to do a chocolate swiss roll and then turn it in to a hedgehog using chocolate fingers for spikes and smarties for face. I made the sponge this morning before work and rolled it up with baking paper inside and out. This evening I made the chocolate butter icing and then tried to roll out the sponge but it's all stuck to the baking paper!!!!!!!!!! I've now got lots of bits of sponge, lots of butter icing, chocolate fingers and smarties but no cake
and I don't know what to do to turn it in to a cake. I need to do it tonight as I won't have time tomorrow and parties first thing Sat morning :eek::eek:
Any bright ideas anyone????

Hi, have you got a pudding basin?
I was thinking maybe you could line the dish with pieces of sponge, then spread a bit of the filling to hold the sponge in place and then add more sponge and just keep doing it until the dish is full or you run out of sponge. When you turn it out you could then spread the butter icing and decorate,I have no idea if it will work.0 -
OK -break the choc fingers into halves. Reserve half and bash up the others and mix with the cake and the icing to form a mouldable mixture. Add other crushed biscuits if you have them. Form into a hedgehog shape and use the choc finger halves and the smarties on their ends to make spines.0

'glue' the broken sponge bits with the icing, you may have to make more, or make up a butter icing, form into the shape of hedgehog.
Then ice the whole thing and put on the 'spikes'

I'm so grateful for your ideas - you really have saved the day!!! We followed thriftlady's plan and it looks amazing!! I wish I knew where I'd put my camera so that I could show you. It looks better than if I'd done it how I'd originally planned as I was able to mould it and DD's sampled the mix and said it was delicious!!JUST DO IT ONE BRICK AT A TIMEPROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBTSWeekly Budget: groceries£50/petrol£50/Unnecesary£15DEBT PAID = 58% (£4,212/£8216):T0
