There are many companies offering 800 plus channels icl sport/adult etc that can be watched on yr pc and they charge a minimum fee (one time) of around £10.
I am concerned that they want my credit card for payment before they will deliver the software to download.
Can anyone tell me if this is ok and what precautions are needed
or maybe someone know of other ways to watch 800 plus channels on pc

They're all a rip-off. Avoid like the plague. They just provide you with info on links/websites that are free to access anyway (e.g. Premiership football in poor quality with Chinese commentary).
However it might be worth checking if you can get the BBC Multicast trial here.
