Breadmaker question!!!

Please can anyone help me with this question.
I have just got a breadmaker and have been following the recipes in ' fresh bread in the morning' but the one thing I don't understand is what size to set your loaf to. The recipe tells you what quantities of ingredients to use it still dosen't tell you what size to set the loaf to.
What determines the loaf size?
Sorry if I'm being a bit thick asking this but I can't get anything other than packet bread mixes to work.
Thanks
Hilary

What type of breadmaker do you have? The panasonic has the sizes on the recipes then s,m,l on the display to choose from.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

I'm really glad you asked that question as I was puzzling the same thing, my breadmaker only makes one size loaves but the recipe book I bought (which is fantastic and lists putting the ingredients in exactly the way I normally do it) has quantities for three different sizes. I thought I would try the middle one first to be on the safe side.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

Your instruction manual should tell you what size loaves the breakmaker makes. In bread maker cook book the three different sizes are usually small = 1llb, medium = 1.5llb and large = 2llb.0
-
My manual shows the 3 different measurements needed for each size loaf, so each recipe has 3 amounts listed under it.0

I have this book and most of the recipes seem to use 500g flour.
For my Panasonic breadmaker I set it to Large (as the settings are Medium 400g, Large 500g and Extra Large 600g)
If you have a different BM just use whatever setting is for 500g0 -
It is an Hinari Breadmaker with 1.5lb 2lb and 2.5lb settings.
I'm still a bit puzzled though.
If I want a 2lb loaf for example, what quantity of flour would I use?
Sorry, I'm a bit slow today!!0 -
This is the recipe from my MR, but im sure it will work in your machine,
1 1/2 cups water (tepid)
4 tbsp skimmed milk powder
4 tbsp sunflower oil
3 tbsp sugar
2 tsp salt
4 cups strong white bread flour
1 1/4 tsp yeast
HTH!!!! Once i got the hang of it, i now leave out the salt, and use less sugar (its my children that eat the most bread!!!) but you might want to try the recipe in full the first couple of times to get the hang of it!!!!0 -

Is that for a 2lb loaf? I have a fairly cheap breadmaker and the recipes that came with it dont seem to work too well. The loafs always seem to come out too small and not mixed properly. Although i think it may just be a poor quality maker. Hence, I've gotten fairly good at making it by hand, which everyone likes, but it takes too long.
The make of my maker is Cookware from Tesco.0 -
The recipes that use 500g of flour are for a 2lb loaf.
Some models (like mine, an oldish MR one) only have small or large settings, and the large is only for a 1 1/2lb loaf, which is about 400g or 3 cups of flour.
I use the 'fresh bread in the morning' book, but then use the manual to get the quantities right. It's fairly simple, once you adjust the total flour amount, the exact amounts of sugar/milk/fat are not that important, so just make a note of what you use and adjust it next time if it's not quite right.0 -
This explains so much, couldn't make out why all the packet breadmixes were in 500 gm packs.
Have adjusted my measurements tonight, so hope will work out ok.MSE Addiction, should come with a health warning:money:0
