Mattress toppers...............

Looking for a double, can't afford a complete mattress at the moment. Looking about there are so many of them, where do i start?. Are they all the same? Some are quite cheap compared to others. In the daily Mail today they one for £24.99 but others i have seen for well over £100.
Do you have to have a decent matt underneath the topper? or will the topper compensate for it. Any replies gratefully received.
cheers in advance

Are you looking for a memory foam one, a feather one, or a normal topper? All of these have different prices.
If money is a consideration, do you have a old duvet you're not using - I have one of these on the spare bed as a topper, covered by the fitted sheet. The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0 -

We brought a foam topper from ikea in Bristol six months ago for £60, its about 3" thick with a removable washable cover. It has made a massive difference, they also have a lifetime garuntee they wont go flat like most!
In the catologue they only advertise the ikea sizes but if you go into a store they have standard single and double size's.0 -
I bought a 2" memory foam mattress topper from this place...

and it has made the world of difference. Was only £76 for a double even if you buy in store, so, better off buying online with free P&P rather than using petrol. hth"And crawling on the planet's face,

What are the memory foam ones like on "fairly new but worn mattress where bottoms lie because hubby and me are on the large side"??? Do they help with bad backs??Everyone has a photographic memory, it's just some of them don't have film.0

My mattress is an orthopaedic one, (scientific term for solid as a rock) and is only about a month old and already I have dented it as I don't move once alseep and sleep in same place/position every night. (Imagine Cozzie shaped dent in bed). The mattress topper has sunken into the dent, but, I don't mind as that's where I would sleep anyhoo, it's made the bed feel less harsh and more welcoming.
Don't know about the bad back thing, but, am sure I have read on other sites that they are supposed to be good as the main support from the mattress is still there."And crawling on the planet's face,
