Yes I guess that is rather a lot! Because I have just moved out I am finding that I need to buy core ingredients i.e. Olive oil, herbs etc which bumps up my shopping each week until I have a good stock. Also, I found shopping on a Saturday meant that a lot of the cheaper items were out of stock so I had to go more expensive. Lastly ..... blueberries are £3.99 ...... shocking!!

I've cut it down to around £35 now and should mention that although I live by myself my boyfriend often eats with me so I always cook enough for 2 or even more.

Looking forward to moving out to our new house where we also have a lodger who I expect I will cook for and spend the same amount. Much more economical!

I'm getting good now and chose most of my meals for the week out of the Special Offers section :)

When I lived on my own I didn't have a car. I did an online shop once a month and stocked up on non-perishables (pasta, tins, jars, cleaning/laundry stuff, shower gel, shampoo etc etc).

I then just went in Morrisons on my way home from work once or twice a week for fresh stuff.

Why do you have to go on Saturdays? I always do shopping on a weeknight. Morrisons tends to be well stocked up to close to closing, so I don't usually have an issue with things being unavailable, and you get some marked down bargains. :)

I'm just too lazy to go in the evening as usually finish work, go to the gym, cook dinner then chill out. I am away for 2 days of the week so that cuts out those evenings straight away.

I guess it is about money saving but also about fitting it around my schedule. Saturday (morning) tends to be shopping and cleaning time as my boyfriend is at work.

Like you said I do need to build up my stock of non perishables as I'm still buying a few of these every week and finding food is wasted where I've cooked and not enough people to eat it!

My food bill is also going to go up when I run out of wine from France as going to start having to buy that from Tescos again :(
