Debts, but I want to change banks

Hi, sorry if this is a noob question
Anyway, I'm due to graduate this year. I'm with one high street bank who failed to give me the overdraft I requested, and did not send me a letter telling me that i needed to verify my signature. This was three years ago, and as a result, it completly soiled my credit rating- my rent was more than my loan, and my university attempted to take the money out any way. Twice.
Anyway, now I'm coming to the end of my degree, and I've no choice but to be with this bank (they did apologise and give me overdraft after alot of complaining from myself). I'm - as it stands- with an overdraft of 1500 pounds (maxed out) and I have a credit card wit this bank in question.
What I would like to know is, whether upon completetion of my degree, I'm going to have to pay back all debt with that bank before I'd be allowed to change banks, or whether it's possible to transfer debts, or if anyone here can offer advice around the subject.
Thanks in advance,

The bank can't stop you opening an account elsewhere. However you will need to negotiate paying back your overdraft with your old bank.Barclaycard 3800
