childrens lives are cheaper in the UK courtesy of the FSA!

guess lives of children in the uk is much cheaper than those of children in usa and canada.

just wonder if the FSAs research was also ghost written like the usa regulators research findings by organisations funded by the chemical industry as can be seen on the video by the people who lead the newspaper investigative report from the beginning.

In 2008, Canada formally declared BPA a hazardous substance and announced plans to ban the import or sale of bottles containing it.
Now six of the leading manufacturers in the US have voluntarily withdrawn it, but only for domestic sales.
Belinda Phipps, chief executive of the National Childbirth Trust, said: "It's time the companies in the UK followed suit with what the companies in America and Canada are doing.
"We shouldn't have bottles on the market that leach BPA. Parents would like to choose not have BPA in their babies' feeds and they don't find that choice easy right now."
'Very cautious' The US Food and Drug Administration says it is reviewing new information on BPA, while in Britain, the FSA says it has looked into the potential risks and found exposure levels to be well below that considered harmful.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7943200.stm
The National Childbirth Trust wants all UK bottles clearly labelled, but the government says they are safe to use.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7384856.stm

guess the uk govt is saying the uk children are more tolerant to the effects of the said chemical, while other countries are taking action directly contradicting the uk FSAs position. guess just like FSA (financial services authority) regulating the bankers here in the uk, the FSA (food standards agency) is taking the !!!! as well with childrens lives here.

time for consumers to make their own choices after seeing the video below. i will be looking to find if i can find BPA free bottles for my child. if it can be withdrawn in the usa and banned in canada, then i dont give a !!!! if the FSA (food standards agency) in the UK says its safe for uk children.

wonder if the FSA (food standards agency) bigwigs bonuses are dependent on reviews for them by the chemicals industry which they govern, just like the FSA (financial services authority) governing financial institutions get their bonuses after feedback from financial institutions they govern.

see this video about the products banned / withdrawn in other countries but still pronounced safe for uk consumers by the FSA here. companies that have withdrawn the products voluntarily in usa still sell the same products elsewhere in the world with impunity.

guess the recession means that lives of uk consumers are cheaper according to the FSA or thats what i gathered from their actions / posturing on this issue.

for people wanting to limit their children from exposure to this chemical see this link
Some animal studies suggest that infants and children may be the most vulnerable to the effects of BPA. Parents and caregivers, can make the personal choice to reduce exposures of their infants and children to BPA
this extract was from the http://www.niehs.nih.gov/news/media/questions/sya-bpa.cfm#23

but please note how research studies that found harm were discounted by regulators and even chairpersons of investigation teams were involved with organisations that got 5million dollar donations from the chemical industry they were investigating.

also remember how many drugs were sold for quite a few years after 'research by manufacturers' saying they were ok was used by regulators but reports saying they werent ok were being discounted for a long time by regulators everywhere.

the chemical is in baby bottles sold in the uk and loads of other stuff. these products are banned in some countries and withdrawn in other countries but still freely sold to the uk consumers with the FSA giving a label of safety to top it. so yes it has everything to do with the economy in the uk! isnt that what this board discusses as well. guess with consumers like you the FSA gets let off for lowering its standards while other countries have taken a tougher stance.

did you even see the video mentioned in my original post before saying that it has !!!! all to do with the economy. i thought you always paid attention to detail but guess i was wrong in my assumption!

i am sure many parents with young children who use bottles with BPA being sold in the uk (while the same company withdraws them from sale in usa and canada bans them) will have every reason for cause for concern on this issue.

    see this
Bisphenol A (BPA) is the chemical used to make polycarbonate plastic, the hard, clear plastic used in baby bottles and reusable water bottles. BPA is also in the epoxy resin lining of nearly all metal cans made in the United States - beer cans, soda cans, food cans. Other polycarbonate plastic items may be identified by the letters "PC" or the recycling label #7. (Not all #7 labeled products are polycarbonate, but consumers may want to use this as a guideline and avoid this category of plastics.) BPA may also be found in #3 PVC plastics. Recent tests by the Milwaukee Journal Sentineleven found detectable levels of BPA leached from products marketed for infants or billed as "microwave safe"when heated. Yet, while it may not be possible to entirely eliminate BPA in daily life, steps can be taken to limit exposure, particularly by focusing on what you eat or put in your mouth.

Its not the only harmful chemical/hazard used out there we buy.Why are we always suprised when its used? Not so long ago lead was in gripe water.

Rf radiation is harmful , yet we use mobiles and wireless networking , and live next to pylons. Its ok cos the govt say it is and the manufacturers tested it , it could be years before exposure shows any bad signs.

You can add fast food containers and prepacked meal containers from supermarkets thats being micro'd.Its ok we are told or they wouldnt be allowed to sell it.

Milk containers are plastic and the chemicals it exudes will be mimimum.Even when it was glass bottles there was still some lead in them too.Cartons are coated with paraffin wax made from petro chemicals.

You can add tinned goods , drink cans , as they are all coated in chemicals. Some of these chemicals are banned elsewhere , and even in america it can be legal and yet still banned in another state. The biggest fear is that they are giving off female chemicals....but hey beer and lager has been doing that since its inception.

Aluminum cookware and draught beers from alu kegs. There has been links to dementia in research.

WE flouride our water and toothpaste and there is worries about dementia being related to it.

We put aspartme and sacahrin into diet drinks , and even non diet drinks is on the increas as its cheaper than sugar. One of them despite tests being done to prove otherwise messes with chemicals that are in our own body....leading to ADHD , and reduced uptake of medicines into the bloodstream....including epileptic/heart etc meds.

Artifical hormones to prevent pregnancy is going down the drains and affecting the foodchain....and are linked to the feminisation of animals and perhaps boys.

We feed cows meat and get bse.We pump meat full of anitbiotics and then eat it.We use chemical cleaners that are toxic to clean them. Our meat is already full of harmfull bacteria before we get it and it could be months old and still considered fit for consumption.

Fish is full of heavy metals and stocks are dwindling so therefore its being intensified in diminishing numbers and in the amount per fish.

We drive kids to school that they should be walking to then complain when another gets knocked down by a schoolrunner 4x4 that the roads arent safe enough.....and thats why we have to do it too thus perpetuating the myth.

Fresh veg isnt fresh , its been stored in vast containers filled with gas , and pumped full of pesticides before it comes out the ground. Most of it is imported and we arent watching over these countries uses of chemicals banned in the uk.

We use chemicals to clean our pots and dishes that are going into the foodchain and water table.Same for cleaning our clothes.

Industry , or what little we have left , are putting chemicals from processing into the water table and foodchain.

Landfills are full of batteries and chemicals that are getting into the foodchain and water table.

We use paper nappies thats been manufactured with chemicals and plastics and add even more chemicals to hold the wet stuff.

We dont recycle , and it uses less chemical and co2 from processing than from raw stock and would thus reduce the prices.

Our homes are full of chemicals from airfresheners , the construction materials are full of chemicals much more harmful than lead paint ever was.

Our furniture is made from chemical processes , plastic , leather that are known to cause cancers. Our electronics are giving off chemicals as the operate.MDF and flat pack furniture is full of chemicals.

We are as a species probably making ourselves extinct.
Have you tried turning it off and on again?

yes loads of chemicals are harmful and we many times have to use them.

when some countries ban a certain product (like canada) and also the products get withdrawn from sale in the usa but the same gets sold as safe in the uk. then there is valid cause for concern for consumers in the uk. it wont be the 1st time industry found ways to bend the rules and play with peoples lives.

if good alternatives are sold in usa then what prevents that in the uk??? probably the FSA giving a clean bill to the BPA plastic manufacturers that makes it more economical to sell BPA plastics instead of safer alternatives. i know from people in the usa that safer plastics are not costlier for the end consumer, so why is it different in the uk?
