Tax to date

in Cutting tax
Hi,
I need some advice on the tax I pay from my wages. I have been employed at the same company since Sept 08.
I am currently on tax code 603L and I get paid weekly.
Now, my payslip shows as follows:-
19/03/2009 - Taxable to date =£3717.65 Tax Paid to date £0.00
Since 20/01/09 I haven't been paying tax? I have called the tax office and they say I am on the right code and everything is fine, while I feel it is not.
Last time I paid tax in January my payslip said taxable to date £6146.22??
I don't understand what is going on? I know I get a £6500 about allowance each year tax free before being taxed 20% of earnings and 2% I believe on national insurance, which they are taking about £20 per week.
Please advise. If you need more info please let me know.
Thanks.

What have you been doing since 6th April 08?0

What were you doing from 6th April 2008 until you started your current job last September?
Have you had a recent change of tax code?
What were the year to date pay and tax figures on your January payslip?
No-one can help without you giving us a picture of what you were doing right from the beginning of the tax year.
PS: Just had a thought - Is your pay administered by HR Connect? I only ask because they have just taken over the N Ireland civil service payroll and are making a right royal hash of it judging by the payslips which are being brought in to our enquiry centre. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. If you had a taxable to date figure of £6146.22 on your payslip in January and a figure of £3717.65 in March then your payroll dept have probably done something wrong. One possibility is that they have received a P6 with previous gross on it and have entered this previous gross as taxable to date. Whatever the cause may be, you need to ask your payroll dept to look at this and explain how this figure could have gone down.
Your tax code is fine but you will only pay the correct tax if that code is applied to the correct taxable to date figure, the tax office can only tell if you are on the correct code they cannot know if the taxable to date figure is correct.0
