Can I request a thread to be locked when there's no mod?

As the subject says really, on the local boards I've started a Milton Keynes thread, however it's much more popular than I first thought, so I'd like the power to lock it and start a new one.
Can I request to do this? If so, how?

The Board Guides on each board appear when you view all threads in a board at the bottom of the page - just scroll down and you will see it titled "Board Guides".
