car hire from Arnold Clark or Enterprise ?

Hi,

has anyone any good or bad experiences with car hire from either of these 2 companies ?

Its years since I hired a car and used to use Arnold Clark with no issues. The one time I used Thrifty they tried to make me pay for pre-existing scratches. They backed down & i got the feeling this was a regular practise.

Enterprise are better located for me to get to so was thinking of using them - also there is a £10.00 excess wiaver but Arnold Clark don't have this & the excess is £500.00.

I'd be grateful for any comments...........

regards Anne

We used Enterprise last October while staying with family, they come and pick you up to take you to their hire place, so no taxi fares. They also dropped us back off even though we thought it was a one-way offer.

    Couldn't have been nicer.

We also ordered a Corsa but ended up with a convertible Astra as they had no Corsas left. If it had been a problem there were other cars they could have given us, but we were more than happy to take the convertible for the same price as a Corsa.:j

I had the misfortune to hire a car from Enterprise about 10 months ago. They never repayed my deposit back on to my credit card....but insisted they had. They point blank refused to believe me. In the end I had to visit their office twice in person, the second time with a fully printed bank statement before they would even agree to look back through their receipts...at which point they discovered that my money had been sent to another card. I will not go into details as to why I can be sure, but I have no doubt whatsoever that it was an attempted con...something I would not say lightly. It was a Glasgow branch.

I used enterprise in Dunfermline and they were fantastic, had no issues at all, well, apart from the fact I didn't want to give the car back after using it for two weeks lol
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Thanks to you all - as I am not used to hiring cars I'm a bit wary after my Thrifty experience. a bit like ailuro's 'con'.

I'm going to hire for a week so at Enterprise its £80.00 but the excess cover is £70.00 ( £10.00 a day ) which seems a bit steep.
Arnold Clark are £100 and £ 50.00 excess cover.

Thanks - still sitting on the fence at the moment....................

phone up the one you'd prefer to go with and ask for a discount.

there's a credit crunch on , after all, the worst they can do is say NO!:D

  • I hired a car from Arnold Clark years ago, lovely car, good price but I was driving down to Wales in it and just south of Carlisle was involved in an accident. They sent a tow truck no problem but took me back to Glasgow to get a replacement car - not what I wanted.

For that reason alone if I was driving a distance Id go for a company with branches throughout the country and not confined to Glasgow and Scotland

    HIya

I used to work for Arnold Car Rental, they have changed a lot since I left - they now do a waiver for the excess, there are all across scotland and quite a lot in England - they usually price match if you can give them details of where you got your quote from. hth
