Extra Help - Job seekers

Hi there. I too am a graduate. I got a letter for the New Deal thing, but luckily I've finally found a job 8 months after signing on!
I think that placement thing is ok, but I personally think it shouldn't be 6-8 weeks long. That's taking the mick! In my industry (well when I find my career job and not just a minimum wage job), it is illegal to work for free! Voluntary's fine for a couple of weeks, that's it.
The best of luck, and hope you find something soon.0 -
Thanks for that. Been this morning and was sent home after an hour because the instructor wasn't there. I apparently have to sit through a week of how to do a cv, fill out an application form etc etc
But, my real problem is, i do not get my petrol paid. BUT if i cought a bus they would pay for that???
I don't see how it's one rule for one and one for another! A car is a luxery yes, but in my case i need it because it's my only form of transport. i cannot physically walk to the bus stop, so i feel i'm being slightly discriminated against. If i chose to maintain a car with the money i get thats my choice. But if i go waste it, i'll get bus fair paid. I don't see how this is fair.I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0 -
If you have extra mobility needs, perhaps you should think about claiming DLA?
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/DisabledPeople/FinancialSupport/DG_10011731If you have mobility needs
To get the mobility component of Disability Living Allowance, your disability must be severe enough for you to have any of the following walking difficulties, even when wearing or using an aid or equipment you normally use:- you are unable or virtually unable to walk, or you have no feet or legs
- you are assessed to be both 100% disabled because of loss of eyesight and not less than 80% disabled because of deafness and you need someone with you when you are out of doors
- you are severely mentally impaired with severe behavioural problems and qualify for the highest rate of care component
- the effort of walking could threaten your life or seriously affect your health
- you need guidance or supervision from another person when walking out of doors in unfamiliar places
- the lower rate, if you need guidance or supervision out of doors
- the higher rate, if you have any of the other, more severe, walking difficulties

I have a £1100 overdraft from Halifax from student days that needs to be paid off and £200 Barclays which is already maxed. I owe my mum £1200 in board etc and since she only works part time and has recently had to take a 10% pay cut i know she will give me it, but she really cannot affort neither.
Do they really need to be paid off though? If you're living on JSA, DLA, etc, you really dont have the money spare to pay off creditors. Have you considered popping over to the DFW section to ask how to deal with these debts (token payments for example, until you land on your feet).matched betting: £879.63

Hi, I have applied for DLA i'm just awaiting a decision from them.
I don't have to pay my overdraft until june/july (thats when the interest starts) i just want it off my back, and my mum will wait i just hate having to owe her so much money when she isn't any better off.
I asked about the petrol for my car. I'm not entitled. So, i made a fuss with my Jobcentre advisor. If i chose to maintain a car with my money thats totally my choice (especially as i maintain a car due to not being able to walk far) but if i !!!! my money up the wall i will get my bus fair paid. I personally think thats just a slight bit stupid and have therefor said i have been discriminated against, because i feel i have.I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. i do agree with you, surely if you cant walk far then car is the most suitable option for you

Regarding the provider refusing to pay your travel expenses-have a look here at paragraph 67
http://www.dwp.gov.uk/supplyingdwp/what_we_buy/pg_chapter_4.pdf
This is the provider guidance that New Deal providers have to work to -its easy to find on the web, so might be worth printing off and taking to your provider? You receive an allowance of £15.38 per week whilst you are on New Deal FTET/VSO/ETF option the first four pounds of which is designed to cover your travel expenses but anything over and above this should be reimbursed by the provider-they pay 25p per mile, so if you travel over 16 miles per week (if my maths is correct!) they should pay you back the extra.0 -
