child benefit and maintenance

I have two questions, my daughterr turns sixteen this year and will still be in school- year 11. Will the Child benefit automatically cease or do I have a duty to tell them? Is there a form I complete she intends to go to college so do I still recieve this until she has completed FE??? Secondly her Dad and I are separated, and he has recently lost his job, we had an out of court agreement where he pays money into my account. However he tells me if he does not get a job he may stiop paying me, is there anything I can do given her age and all?

The Child benefit offices will send you a form asking if she is remaining in full time education. You just need to complete and send it back and they will continue to pay up to the age of 19 if she remains in full time education.

How do you propose that your ex will pay? If he is out of work and has no income I don't see how you expect him to pay. Does he have savings or assets?

If you approach the CSA, it will be the start of a nightmare. Just read some of the posts on here. If you have an amicable arrangement then try and keep it that way. If your ex applies for benefits i.e Job Seekers Allowance, the CSA assessment would be £5 per week.

I would discuss with your ex what he can do/offer. Hope this helps.
