Hi all,
Been a member of Martin's newsletter for months now when I had my LBM! Which was Jan 08. Very scary and lots of tears shed. Basically me and DH got into an enormous amount of debt (over £40'000  I know!!!), we had spent it on our new house, and our glorious wedding, and 5 star honeymoon...well we are now paying for it! Ha! We sold our house, just before this horrendous credit crunch hit, sooooo lucky! And the best decision we EVER made! Paid of 2 credit cards, and 2 big overdrafts with the equity from the house.
We moved in with the in-laws, for 7 months and believe me it was a struggle, but we managed to save thousands to get a deposit for a new house (just renting whilst we are still in debt), we now have a very strict budget and we stick to it very well. Our current house is bigger and cheaper!
Although, I've had to do a lot of switching suppliers, G&E saving £180pa, Water saving £150pa (water metre installed on Friday!), and as I'm a student (whilst working full time, phew!), I am applying for 25% off my council tax, so fingers crossed with that one!
We have applied to credit issues to see if we can get any debt cleared from our massive LV loan, they will be letting us know in the next 6 weeks if we have a case to answer to or not...I certainly hope so, as this is a whopping £331 pm!!
I'm loving being on the saving bandwagon, and this will be my diary, I'm hoping we can be debt free by Jan 2011. So let's seeeeeeeee!
Everyone must keep me on the savings straight and narrow as I don't fancy ending up back in the in-laws tight grasp again thanks! LOL! (Seriously though, it was amazing of them to take us in!!)
Here's to being DEBT FREE ONE DAY! Woop! :T

Hi Keeley and well done on your LBM :T
You're doing great. Only thing I can think of is if there is any PPI you think may have been missold? Have a look through the reclaiming PPI boards on here they are a great bunch.
I'll subscribe to your diary and keep checking in.
Good luck hun.

Congratulations on managing to reduce your debt by half. Just think how long it would have taken to clear if you hadn't sold the house.

Hi all, sorry it's been so long since I've been on here, but my internet wen kaput
All better and back online now, sorry but what's an SOA? I'm a bit dense with these things, lol...that's one I know!
Oh yes, the dreaded PPI, we found out last year that we were paying £60 extra a month for PPI. We were told when we applied for the loan that one of us had to take out the PPI or the loan could not be accepted, so dumb as were at the time, thought this was how it works, and did it. Currently, in the midst of trying to claim it back, we canceled it straight away when a friend, who used to be a mortgage adviser, told us we had been taken for a ride, oops! These people will do anything for a quick buck won't they! Especially, young and naive couple like us!
Wow, you lot are lovely helping me like this, thanks :j
I am studying for a law degree, and so a good thing now I've started that is that I don't go out much anymore, so no temptation to spend, spend, spend, hee hee!
I've started saving for xmas, is that a bit previous of me?
Should I push the date back a bit then? I will push it to Jan 2012, and see how I go...eek, very scary stuff this, but enjoyable as we're gradually seeing the numbers going down.
Thanks again you guys, now I'm back online, I'll keep updating it.
Also, how can I find this thread quickly when I log on, as it took me ages to find it again, ha-ha!

Am I being really thick or is it really difficult to find this thread!! LOL! I can't find it, and it takes me ages to find it every time I log on! Can someone tell me a quick way to do it?
Thanks for the congrats!! YAY! We're on our way for sure....:D
**GREAT NEWS!! I had a letter in the post the other day about my claim against the bank charges in my current account between 2004 and 2008...and I'm claiming for a whopping £4160!!!! Blimey! I know the courts are currently on hold but how amazing would that be? And I've also been told that the claim we have put in against our biggest loan for misselling us PPI, will be to the amount of £2000 at LEAST! So things are starting to look up in our household...for once!
As and when these payouts eventually make it into the bank accounts, our little loan will definitely be paid off, which will free up another £150 a month! And with that will cut down our time left to pay off the biggest loan by a third, woop woop!
So, it's true what they say then...good things come to those who wait...;)
Me and the hubby have worked so hard to get this far and it finally feels like we're getting somewhere, we haven't been on holiday in 2 yrs (since our honeymoon!), and haven't bought any new clothes since...I CAN'T EVEN REMEMBER...which is quite good considering I was a shopaholic!! Lol!
Thanks all again for your support, and I'll keep checking in every now and again with updates!
Love!!!!!

I don't know if it's permanent, we haven't been told for certain yet, so fingers crossed it won't go ahead and it's just empty threats, but me and OH are finally getting ourselves sorted, and trying for a babyso it would be very unwelcome news!!!
