GPS PDA Europe 2006 mapping software

Do you have a PDA running MS Pocket PC 2003 or later and want to upgrade to 2006 mapping?

If so Directions (http://www.directions.ltd.uk) have just released a beta test software package

Voice sat. nav. covering most of Western Europe is at beta stage (still under final development) available at a reduced price of £59.99 - normal price is £89.99. (TomTom price £130) Directions will supply, when available, the fully released version free of charge to beta testers in return for reporting back problems / bugs

I have used Directions products for the last three years and they do give excellent value for money and their backup / help desk is very good

Pocket Navigator 6 has all the features you would expect - voice navigation (13 languages), 2D 3D screens, automatic reroute calculation, night mode, favourites etc etc. Unlike TomTom you can route from address to address across international borders. Also it has ALL UK FULL postcodes, some 400,000 more than TomTom. Warnings on approaching objects (ie speed cameras) are, of course, available.

I have no connection or commercial interest in Direction products other than a satisfied long-term user

Regards

John1

Thanks for that. I am desperate to get better than TomTom. I'll try it out next week.

Wanted to thank the op for this. Ordered the software on 24.02 (late) and received it first post yesterday. DH installed onto our (£139 Somerfield) mdppc 150 and it is up and running.

Loads of extra POI (more than we had found through) and at a glance the European mapping looks good.

Definitely worth a second look folks

    Thanks john1.

Would you mind posting your thoughts on it after a few days use. Hw does it compare to TOMTOM if you have any experience of Tomtom

Is there a speed camera database, or the files available to add them?

    Sorry for the delay...

GordonD: I'm no expert, we haven't used Tomtom, just the Medion version of Navigator that came with our mio clone. In some ways this software is superior to Navigator (e.g. you can see the planned itinerary from the start).
In other ways Navigator was superior (e.g. it showed the road you were travelling on - turn right onto the A1 - Pocket Navigator doesn't show this at a glance.

VK2003: We haven't had a chance to load the speed camera database yet but assume that it is available (OP said so).

If you have any more questions, I'll try to get back quicker next time.
