Got a website at last what now

We sell quality food and have a website at last informing people of what we do etc its an info site?

I have heard all things about blogs, banners, ways of making money, ways of promoting yourself, can someone please give me a list of ways i could now progress to promote the site and maybe earn money. Even if i cant earn money i would love to promote it more now.

Thanks. A list would be good.

    Do you already have an offline business? a shop?

    start collecting email addresses of your customers;
    you need to get visitors to your site before any money can be made.
    An online store may be appropriate.
    Otherwise a static website and maybe a blog you update daily with recipes, ideas of what to cook / what is in season / promotions etc.

    PM me if you need any help/ideas.

    Get yourself a copy of "Search Engine Optimization for Dummies" first and foremost. You will learn much.

    Now you have built the site you need to optimize it. While you are doing that, you need to start building backlinks, try this type of service to get you going.

    You say its an "info" site. Can people buy from it? If your food is able to be mailed, then you need to enable this. Pick up the "Internet Marketing" book in the "Dummies" series next and learn how to do that.

    Find sites with a similar demographic to your buyers (not competitors) and engage the webmasters and do a banner exchange to drive some physical traffic.

    Its a long slow road, building the site is only the very beginning.

    The magic term is "SEO". Search Engine Optimization, as stated by Smit above. Google it, buy books on it, live and breathe it!

    If you have an advertising budget, do some research on Google Adwords. These are the ads that show up on other websites, and can cost as little as 4p per click depending on your chosen keywords. Some books, like the Dummies book, will have a £25 credit voucher with them for this service. I think it's a one-off account opening deal only though, so you can't buy up several books just for the vouchers!

    And if you don't have an advertising budget, or plain don't want to spend any money yet, you can take advantage of Google's free Keyword Tool - I find this extremely useful. Just type some words/phrases related to your niche and search, then use the drop-down menu and display 'Estimated Average CPC'. Look for decent phrases that have high search volumes and decent CPCs.

    Edited to add: remember though that the CPC is NOT what you get paid - it just gives you a clue about what advertisers are willing to pay high for. But you're still best to focus your on-site SEO on these higher value phrases, I guess.
