We may have had a bigger boom and bigger bust, or smaller boom and smaller bust, but we'd have had it nontheless !!!!'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 -

Only the cash classes buy plasma tvs these days. Plasma is so retro.
The credit classes, on the other hand, prefer LCD, and nothing under 42 inches.:rolleyes:0 -

Of course it did something, it's a straightforward fact that it.took £10Bn less money out of the economy as tax. Just because it didn't suddenly make everything better does not mean it failed - to say so ignores the possibilty that things would be worse without it.0 -

:rotfl:
It FAILED!
A lot of retailers didnt even pass the cut on & that would of led to people being more inclined to keep money in their pockets rather than give it to rip off retailers..

In January retail sales were sharply up 3.6% on the previous January (despite the CBI saying they would be sharply down!)
In February retail sales were down on a like-for-like basis but total sales actually grew by 0.1%
Maybe it would have been worse without the VAT cut?0 -

It may have escaped your attention, but this recession has been quite hard on some retailers, you know, those businesses that employ people in shops. Those that didn't pass on the VAT cut got the benefit of 2.5% extra profit margin on their sales. How is this failure?0 -
Let's look at the core policy of Clown's ten years in No.11- everything was based on unfettered public spending after 1999 and vastly increasing on and off balance-sheet debt even in the very best economy for a generation.
Taken together, the Labour stealth taxs, the collapse in the £, the public sector pension growth, the millions idle on IB, the means testing, the fees for those in work, Labour has brought about a decline in people's wealth of at least £500 billion on an NPV basis.
With so much being taken by the state, people have themselves been obliged to take on debt.
No the recession has hit, this combined public and private sector debt is the crushing yoke that is killing the British economy.
Given that the Tory policy is to create the circumstances for a net increase in personal wealth, that's conclusive evidence that the recession is much worse in Britain due to Labour. All now validated by the IMF studies etc that we are the sick man of the developed nations.
Britain under Labour is the profligate fool, who has lived in up on the never-never and is now penniless and without work. As a country, we're in the same boat as the Big Issue seller.
Labour's not working. Again.0
