did we do the right thing????

in Loans
we have a loan with natwest and took out the ppi with it,when my husband was unemployed we contacted the insurance to make a claim.
we recieved a letter to say they couldnt pay out as my husband wasnt named as an insured person of tha agreement.They said to contact the banking branch where we took out the loan as they would have the paperwork relating to it.It then goes on to say if he is insured on the loan to send a copy of the credit agreement to them.
Fortunately we had a copy so we posted this off to them and they are now paying out.
The thing that puzzles me is what agreement are they looking at that doesnt have my husbands name on and had they just lost it and was hoping we would send one?????
Did we do the right thing by sending our copy to them?
