Recipe Journal

Options
OK Ive seen a nice recipe journal in Marks and Spencer last week in Bristol but I live in Newport and forgot to pick one up. I've tried to order it in my local store as it was only £7.50 but they can't get any as its out of stock in the distribution center. Does anyone know any other cheap Recipe Journals or have any other ideas? I just want a book where I can write my own recipes and keep the ones I like all together. This one was pink and had sections for the different types of dishes (meat, veggie, pasta etc).
Never give up the dream!

  • Hiya,

Not sure if this would be what you would be looking for but the pukka pads I use for writing ideas sound quite similar, they are A4, split into 5 sections. Cost about £3 from Asda.

Not fancy or anything but you could always cover the front to make it look a bit nicer :j

    Hope that helps :o

Was it in Marks in the centre of Bristol or out at Cribbs Causeway? I live and work in the centre of Bristol so could pick one up for you if you like?

I just buy scrap books and divide them into sections. I then compile an index of recipes, print it out and staple to the inside front cover.
Another option is to use a regular 2 or 4 ring binder with dividers and just add more pages as you go.
Both are cheaper options than buying a specific recipe journal.

I have used a recipe journal in the past, but it never quite works because some recipes do not fit in any of the sections, one section is full up before any of the others, sometimes you write or paste recipes in that you don't care for anymore... A custom home made system like some of the suggestions above is usually more practical. I use an A4 hardback notebook and leave the first few pages free to make the index page, then I number the pages. I write or paste recipes in as I go along - in no particular order, but I can find them via the index. Once the book is full I have a clearout: the frequently used good ones get pasted into the new book, the not-so-popular-after-all don't. A loose leaf binder system also works well, as you can create categories. But this can be tricky sometimes - e.g. should a vegetable soup go in 'soups', 'starters' or 'vegetarian'? Seems trivial perhaps, but I never remember when I quickly need to find it.....

I have started using A4 display books with clear sheets into which you can insert your recipes. I have 1 for sweet, 1 for savoury and 1 for occasions. I cut out recipes from supermarket magazines (I usually get myself 2 mags as I can cut out the photo and include that too, as sometimes another recipe is printed on the back ;)), or write on a piece of paper, include a card sent from relatives or something that I've printed from a website.
  • I have to admit im not very money saving and bought a rather expensive retro style one from Paperchase (think it was around £15). I know there are chaper options but i liked the mix of see through pockets, 50's styling and paper sections. On the positive style it really encouraged me to use it. My OH nicknames it my bible.
