Recipe needed from old Bero book please

I used to have a Bero book recipe from many years ago for a Banana loaf. It only used one banana and you put everything in a blender. It was cooked in a 1LB loaf tin and it said to put icing on the top. I wondered if anyone still has this recipe as I can't find it?

TIA

  • The only recipe I can see in my Bero books is for a tea bread with 1lb of bananas & walnuts in it. Could that be it?

That's the only recipe in my Be-Ro book too. Have you tried the website www.be-ro.co.uk there might be something on there or even a customer service phone number ;) HTH

    Hiya,
    Thanks for the replies.
No, the recipe with walnuts is definitely not it. Hate walnuts lol:rotfl:
Its a very old recipe, probably 40 odd years old?
It only had one ripe banana and you just put everything into a blender, all at once, have a feeling it only had one egg, but might be wrong about that, could have been 2.
I have tried the website and also tried emailing them to see if they could help, but no, they just pointed me to the modern versions.

    How about this one.

    Sarah's Banana Cake

Don't remember where the recipe came from, but my daughter, now 27, used to make it when she was 8/9 so named it for her!

    Use a 2lb loaf tin

    4 oz soft marg
    4 oz soft brown sugar
    2 eggs
    8 oz SR flour
    1 level teaspoon mixed spice
1 tablespoon golden syrup (or runny honey)
1 med/lg ripe (going black - last one left in the bowl) banana, mashed
    2 oz chopped walnuts/pecans
    4 oz sultanas/chopped dates - I prefer dates

    Oven - Gas 4/180c

Grease and line a large loaf tin.
Sieve together the flour and spice.
Add all the rest and beat until mixed.
Put into tin and bake for 1 hour then reduce slightly for another 20 - 30 minutes.

I usually make 2 and slice and freeze one.

i've got the modern be-ro book (approx £1 from morrisons baking aisle) and i've also just had a look in my older copy which was my grans - almost 40 years old - but not in there either, sorry.
  • I have baked this recipe often though not for a few years. I came to make it today and the recipe was not there!!! I have 2 x old Be-Ro books, a 33rd edition and a 34th edition, I think from the 1970's or early 1980's at the latest. Which page is the recipe on in your book? I could have sworn it was in one if these books but I can't find it.

DJay2018 - Post 5 by Surfing Spaniel has the same Banana and Walnut Tea Bread recipe that I have in my 39th edition of the Be-Ro cookbook. Could this be the one you are looking for?

It is on page 12 in my book.
