We have burgers and sausages in the freezer, we bought them frozen and have kept them in the freezer since then.
Now my daughter is convinced that you cant defrost said burgers or sausages to cook and that they MUST be cooked from frozen.
If this is the case then that's a new one on me.
So basically, can you defrost the frozen burgers and sausages to then cook as we please, either grill, fry or even in the slow cooker for a sausage casserole?

Hi Elkay,
I would read the instructions on the packet or if there isn't any personally I would defrost before cooking.

I know from experience that some convenience burgers packs suggest that they are BEST cooked from frozen, but that doesn't mean to say that you can't defrost them first. Perfectly safe to do so, although I think you'll find they may be a bit limp once defrosted, hence the cook from frozen suggestion.

Hi
You can defrost them but they tend to cook better from frozen. I would defrost the sausages tho before putting them in a slow cooker. But for grilling or frying definitely cook from frozen.0 -
Thanks everyone. Yep I know that burgers if frozen are best grilled frozen, but she was convinced that you can't defrost either the sausages or burgers then cook them.
I always defrost sauasages before cooking because I find they cook better from being defrosted.
Thanks for your help folks0 -

I agree with Aeshna. The word suggested means that it will taste better. Just like certain product say 'best microwaved' although they can be oven baked etc.
I think if the package said 'always ccok from frozen' that is different than it is 'suggested'. Refer to the packaging.I have learned that success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has had to overcome while trying to succeed. It says "best cooked from frozen", from personal experience its because they tend to fall apart when they are desfrosted, but yes of course they can be cooked when defrosted, a lil quicker too!0

I make my own burgers and freeze them. I always defrost them before cooking but I keep them in the fridge until I am ready to grill them as I think it keeps them slightly firmer
Sausages? Can't see any reason why they shouldn't be defrosted first. Indeed I would have thought that cooking from frozen ran an increased risk of not 'cooking them through' if grilling or frying.0 -
Cheers Andy.
Aye I think she normally makes her own burgers, and to be honest it's not something I ever really buy. I have cooked them both from frozen and defrosted them then cooked them on the odd occasions I have bought them, but not something I have bought in years probably since she were a lass.
Like you, I always defrost sauasages before cooking them though.0 -
Ha! They say 'refer to the packaging', which says 'Keep Frozen'.
I winJust because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0 -
You can do either.
Packaging that says 'keep frozen' usually means that if it defrosts, eat it straight away and don't refreeze it, becuase it's already been frozen once before it was processed or before it got to the store.
You might find burgers disintegrate if they're not really high quality because of the amount of water in them. That's why the packets recommend cooking from frozen.
I'm a lazy and forgetful cow so more often than not cook from frozen.
The sausages I cook from frozen are ones which dont even have 'from frozen' guidelines on them, as they're meant to be used fresh.
Defrosting first would be better and probably safer, but I like mine incinerated so I've always been fine!
I'd always defrost in a fridge rather than the m-wave, but either is fine, AFAIK.
