Thank-you!! xxx
Anyway...today visited a old couple today with my supervisor. They got a 40something old son with learning difficulty in a daycentre.
My supervisor introduced me as a social work student...and the couple looked at each other and started ranting at me:
I look like i just come from school!!
What use am i gonnabe to them as a social worker when im a kid myself!!
I look younger than their grandkids!! etc
Then they refused to let me sit and observe the assessment with the supervisor!!
Supervisor tried to explain, but still ended up sitting in car for half an hour!!
This gives me a taste of what to expect when im really working!!:o
Anyone got any advice...maybe im not cut out for social work!!
xxxx
ps. Thanks cmcommell! xxx0 -

Big thankyou to everyone earlier for the advice.....I questioned DD and to be honest I dont believe her. All she was interested in was the new tunes she was sharing with her mate on the way home. John said ignore it as she's not telling the truth. A mom from over the road and her daughter said the teacher in question is lovely and would never say anything like that. It is being handled by the head of year so she said but I know they would phone me if it is true. If it is I shall expect it to be taken further but at the moment we both think it was girls playing up in class..Best Competition Wins-Brand New Vauxhall Corsa & £30000

Sally,
I'm sorry you've had such a bad day, but don't let it put you off. When I first started working it was for a DIY company as assistant manager. Shoppers used to ask me a technical question (along the lines.. 'You probably don't know, but...'), they clearly didn't think I knew what I was talking about. They would then ask one of the shopfloor lads the same thing, who would then have to come and ask me!
All professions have their 'doubters' and it's only to be expected that you will have to prove yourself again and again when you are starting a new profession, but try and remember all the reasons that you went into it in the first place, and try and stay positive.
You will get past this stage in your career, and one day you will wish you still looked like their grandkids!!!Working hard in the hopes of being 'lucky'
