How to get melted plastic off t-shirt??

I have no idea how to do this, but thought I might ask here as I am sure someone may have an idea. I have a steam press and ironed ds zip up jumper and accidently the plastic zip went onto the hot plate. I didnt realize and put my new white t-shirt next and now I have a lump on melted plastic on my t-shirt - and i just cant get it off. I tried to iron it again to 'melt' the plastic again to peel it off, but it has set hard even when re=ironing. Then I tried heating and scraping it off with a knife, but if I continue trying it is going to make a hole. So, anyone done this and managed to salvage???

I wonder if you can remove it the same as wax.

Cover with a piece of brown paper, place the hot iron on the brown paper and as it melts it should stick to the paper.

There is on here a section on tips for many a situation like this I'll have a look for you.

    Hi,

Have you trying putting the t-shirt in the freezer for a few hours then scraping the plastic off? This works with chewing gum and candle wax so may work for plastic as well.

    Good luck!
  • It depends on how deep into the mesh it's worked. If you can see plastic coming through the fabric on the other side, you may be out of luck. Also, if it's a natural fibre t-shirt, it may mostly come out but leave a stain. If it's a poly-blend fabric, depending on the heat of the plastic when it melted it may have bonded to the fibre in your shirt.

But hey - nothing ventured, nothing gained. I prefer the carefully ironing with a piece of paper towel method myself. Works for animal fat (mostly, with a little flour sprinkled,) and wax, so if the plastic is pretty melted in there, it's worth a shot.
