Security cleared jobs - advice please !!!!

I have been defence vetted and was wondering what type of Civil Servant I.T/ Telecomms jobs anyone could suggest where the vetting wouldn't go to waste as I've heard it can help find better paid jobs ????

Any help would be much appreciated

Many thanks

    As far as I know, you actually have to have a sponsor in order to get security clearance. I am due to start a job in April where security clearance is necessary - the way it worked in my case (and it's still ongoing) is like this:
    • first, I applied for the job, aware that security clearance would be required but I didn't have it at the time;
    • I was invited to go for an interview, where I had to take a shed-load of completed forms (supplied by the prospective employer) relating to obtaining basic security clearance (BC, I think - it may have changed);
    • I passed the interview and aptitude tests and was given a conditional job offer, at which point the basic security check was actioned;
    • when I passed the basic check, the conditional offer became a firm one, and I now have a start date;
    • once I start, the next level of security clearance (SC) will be sought - my firm offer does have the caveat that if I don't pass that level of cleaance, my role may be reviewed or my employment with the company may be reviewed.
    I have seen websites where they do specifically say that you can't just apply to be security cleared - you do have to have a sponsor, and it is the sponsor who applies on your behalf.

    If anyone out there knows any different, please feel free to correct me!

    MoD job site:

    however the Civil Service don't pay more for a job just because it requires DV clearance (Developed not Defence)

    I recently looked into this and it now seems that agencies can't specify that you need to be cleared to be considered as long as the time it takes to be cleared is before the role ends. But getting them to admit that you aren't considered because of not being cleared is another story altogether!
