Could you plant something to grow over it? Virginia creeper is lovely, it grows really fast and you get beautiful autumn colours. Or ivy, that'll cover it in no time.

But, as you say, I'd be more worried about what they've done inside, if they've put UPVC windows in. My aunt had a beautiful Victorian house that was sold to developers to turn into flats. They trashed the inside, ripped out loads of original features, which they then replaced with repro stuff. Madness. I was so sad, I loved that house.

I'd be more worried that they'd exposed the surface - and would it need coating and had they done it. If they've removed the waterproof surface water might permeate through every wall the first time it rains.

The windows can be replaced, but you're talking serious money for decent ones & getting them done one at a time could add hundreds (or even thousands) to the bill. If you do put in a cheeky offer make sure you explain why. Not that it'll make any difference as the damage is done. I don't understand why people buy lovely a old property then try to turn it into a new build
  • Some people have the gene that forces them into:
"If its stationary paint it, if it moves oil it".
They just have to make theri mark on everything they own.

I am tempted to berate them for a severe case of bad taste.

Depending on the stone used I would make sure they have used some form of water seal after the sand blasting as taking the patina off can also allow water ingression and potentially frost damage or erosion
    Nothing to see here

The house I am in now was built in the 1850s. When I bought it with my ex 6 years ago, we went away for the weekend and left his parents here with our then 2 year old. There are 18 steps up to the front door, and when we returned, they had sandblasted the lot.

Now, 6 years on, I bought my ex out and my partner and I still have the house. But all the steps are kn&ckered. Can I sue them :rotfl: I get angrier every time a piece of brick gets in my sandals!

By the way, if you want some serious advice about buying a lovely old cottage that you fall in love with, ask me first how much it costs to maintain!!! CHECK the electricity, pipes, everything. Have a thorough survey. We had loads of glass in our garden that had been buried wine bottles from someone years ago (but we did find some really old perfume bottles that had been buried too). No bodies quite yet, but a couple of gravestones from the churchyard at the back ...
