:) Thanks. Not much news yet, felt a bit onhold until today.

Moved in at the weekend, have a lot of unpacking to do.

Have had a nice email from royal mail (I contacted them through the postcode finder service) and they've added my flat (and loads of the other flats) to the service but said it can take a while for it to filter through to companies who use their service.

Have groceries due tonight - did through mysupermarket via topcashback to hopefully get £4 later. Spending a whopping £148, not very MSE but am starting almost from scratch and its all multiples of value stuff, shouldnt need to shop again for a good while.

Going to count up the debt total tomorrow, as get paid wednesday and its always going to be getting smaller from now on.

Still waiting to hear on council tax band, only a few have been banded and as site plan numbers are diff to address cant work out what size places have been done.

Well congrats on your new home first of all! :j

Secondly I think it's entirely feasible to spend that much money stocking up cupboards and the freezer from scratch. We all take for granted the bags of pasta/spices/frozen leftovers we can fall back on to help us get through the lean times!

Well done for sounding so positive about things and fingers crossed the council tax will be low(ish)! Will you qualify for single persons relief? It all helps!

    Arrrgh just lost reply.

Anyway to cut it short debt total is 15011.98, its higher than when did soa, thats the highest its going to be.

Have run a long term budget into excel and can be clear by August 2010, gonna try hard to make it sooner.

Yes will get single person discount for c.tax just worried as most flats in the block banded so far are Cs and Ds.
Am loving having my own space but not loving it being only me to unpack and work out the hot water (cold shower this morning).

Payday tomorrow, aiming to spend nothing until the 4th.

Well if you feel like that's really the highest it's ever going to be, then the only way is...er...down! Hurrah!

August next year to be debt free is brilliant news! I'm sure with a bit of hard work and cutting back where you can, you'll do it even quicker than that. When you get there, tell me what it feels like please...!!

Good luck with all the unpacking and with working out the hot water (typical issue in a brand new flat!).

This site is keeping me on track, somehow its sent a no spend fairy to sit on my sholder to say no to me in shops, make me go home after work, not via shop/pub/restaurant and make me not just buy that ticket online.

Did go to the cinema at the weekend (early show so cheaper) and did wander round the shops but all in spent less than a tenner so much better than it would have been in past. It was harrrrrrrrd walking past starbucks, went home and made coffee and pretended, also ate at home which[STRIKE] is [/STRIKE] was unusual for me on a weekend.

Flat is mostly unpacked, hot water working, doorbell not ( I think, need to find someone to press it for me, seems like maybe none work as often people pressing whilst on mobile trying to get answer either way).

Had inventory back from letting agent but still no info on the electric and have gone ahead and contacted the council even though letting agent said they did it, as not had bill yet and dont want to be outside the 21 day period of letting them know I'm here.

Went to bank to change address, they said my account is due for review and that someone will call but not to worry - hope all will be okay - do want to reduce the overdraft but not yet as ccard needs attention more.......

Signing up to challenges all over, hope to keep on track properly with focus.

Back to london for the weekend, hope I dont go nuts :o

  • Hi Jayss

Glad to hear you're settling into the flat and that you have hot water - hurrah!

My bank keeps calling me saying they want me to go in and see them to discuss my account which I'm ignoring. I'm not in trouble - OD is not being used for the first time in YEARS (although that might be why they wanna talk to me!). Frankly if I go in I know they'll just talk me into extending my loan to pay off my CC's again and I'm powerless in the face of perceived authority so am going to keep ignoring!

I too am avoiding Starbucks at the moment so well done (I miss my vanilla lattes!). I'm loving the motivation this site gives - I genuinely am asking myself if I need something before I buy it!

Good luck with all your challenges!

    Thanks

Avoiding nice coffee shops is a killer. Recently found theres a starbucks near the office but hadnt been - phew - good job hadnt made it routine before joining here.

Even when account was in good shape i avoided reviewing my account calls, never useful and they always use as a sales pitch.

Just booked hotel for end of month (reunion trip planned ages ago, before left london, spent too much on to get out of, and being honest wouldnt want to) on lastminute a 'secret hotel' for £67 (via topcashback too) just been on the hotel site, the rate they charge for my date and room type £305!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Am super happy. When looking yesterday couldnt find anything under 120 at a reasonable distance and was bracing myself for a hostel.

Congrats on coming aboard! Looking at your SOA, I'd say you could reduce entertainment to £50 a month, and shopping to at least £100, less if you were to plan meals etc. So there's a saving of £150 a month!

I agree you need to see other people, not just your work colleagues, but £200 is a LOT to do this. Invite people round to your new flat for a chat, dinner & a movie! Less than a tenner.

Good luck & I hope you get on your way to being debt free asap! :D
